Thanks for the video. I have never noticed the red line at 6200 rpm and then the second redline at 8400. I thought that it was just wide open to 8400 rpm. Is there a recommendation to keep the car under 6200 rpm?

In the first video... was that a rap remake of one of the songs in "Willy Wonka"?

And the yellow line is dynamic as seen when the engine starts up, meaning that it will move and recede back up to 8.4k as the engine warms up to the proper temperature. The e46 M3 had a similar feature only it was illuminated (lights would go out increasing the redline as the engine warmed up) where as the e92 redline is a radial mechanical function.

Does the redline look like it is less than 8400 to anyone? I have been noticing this for some time on the dial. It almost looks in the exact same place as the M5/M6. The line just doesn't look like it is at 8400. Too far away from the 8500 mark.

That's strange but true. Don't know why BMW didn't change that.

Is the first red line at 6200rpm anything to do with the run-in period because I see the orange starts at the 5500rpm that you are meant to stick to for the first 1500miles.

Initially I also thought that the break in period might be considered in the redline warning, but it's not the case. 6250rpm is just the redline when the engine's still cold. As you can see in the other video the redline goes all back to 8400 (like E said, looks like 8250). So during break in period the moving redline isn't a good advice.

So that is how it appears in your car? If so, that is total BS!!! Why the hell would they do that? Using the same part is not even a reasonable excuse. Does the car actually rev past the first part of the red mark?

I find this highly disturbing.

Yep, it's the same. I'm assuming that it revs past that first red mark but can't tell for sure yet. Here's another picture from Sportauto where it's the same:

Yeah, that is definately halfway between 8000 and 8500. Why increase the redline and be cheap about it and use the same part as on the M5/6. Total crap. I can't believe BMW is being so second-rate about things.
