So what happens if you drive with Auto-blip and Match-rev yourself?

ashtaron14 wroteI assume you mean on accident. If the unit sends a signal to raise RPM to 4500 and you hit the gas pedal only hard enough to raise it to 4000 then the unit's input will be used. If the scenario is reversed, your input will be used. This assumes you hit the gas at the exact same time as the unit sends its signal which is very improbable when dealing with electronic signal speeds. Most likely it would end up with two signals making for a less smooth change. So what happens if you drive with Auto-blip and Match-rev yourself?
When using this you will still need to rev match when downshifting to accelerate as you won't be triggering the brake input. It only eliminates the need to heel-toe.
So your 2nd video, it doesn't seem like you programmed enough revs for the downshift, no?
Bushum wroteIf you are going to use it on the street you may have to adapt your driving style slightly. When I am coasting to a stop I usually brake and then push in the clutch before the RPM fall too much. Doing this will obviously make the engine rev and make you look silly. If you drive like that you simply have to push in the clutch and then brake instead.

Too bad that you have adapt your driving style to this gizmo. This is the way I drive too. I like to stay in gear as much as I can, so that I can have instant throttle when I need it in case of emergency.
Auto blip on manual, nice! Next round maybe possible to add mechanics that automatically sort the gear too...
Old MT guy myself and even with DCT these days fully understand the MT folks main argument it involve the driver more incl nice reward when the rev matching comes in place.
Sorry OP couldn't help myself to start wonder here but go for it...

IL8Apex wroteIf you want instant response with this engine you are probably downshifting during your stop right? If so that is exactly what this thing is for. You wouldn't need to change anything. I was saying that I basically coast in neutral to come to a stop if I know I'll be stopping for a while like when the light just turned red.

Flying Ace wroteThe second video was actually the first one I shot. I did have to adjust it to get it to my liking. Still might not be perfect but it's a very simple adjustment. You just have to turn that first knob.So your 2nd video, it doesn't seem like you programmed enough revs for the downshift, no?
Just for future reference on a search, I have been adjusting it and I think I found the smoothest setting. At the very least it will give someone a good starting point.

EJT86 wrotejust rotate your foot at the ankle and then flick your knee to the right. its always below the steering wheel.Yes using the right and left side of your foot works but after a while of bending your knee sideways around the steering wheel would be tough
Flying Ace wroteI watched the first 45 seconds of that (about 3 shifts) and it never autoblipped correctly - look at the blip and then look at the rpms again after gear is engaged LOL.This video shows the unit in action. Pretty cool IMO, I might be interested.
Bushum wroteDoes it compensate for needing harder blips in lower gears? And timing? I guess if you can adjust it on the fly it would be nice (certain percentage for street driving / track driving)
in my experience 3-2 needs more blip than usual.
It blips as a percentage of current RPM when the unit is triggered. It is just a simple rheostat, it cannot compensate or make intelligent decisions about anything. I will argue that it does as well as most people who simply jab the throttle. I know many people think they are at professional racer levels but that is far from the truth. I would go further and claim that at minimum 50% of people who talk about heel-toe only know what it is from Wikipedia and YouTube videos and have absolutely no practical proficiency. Like I said in my OP, most of the discussions I have read about this device devolve into heel-toe "real driver" arguments.
As far as adjustability, the delay from when you trigger the clutch to the blip is adjustable between instant and 0.5 seconds. I have mine set to 0.25 second and it is perfect for the way I drive. The percentage of blip is also adjustable. If you are at a track with many 2nd gear turns you could set it higher to get the blip you want and then turn it back down when you are driving normal with more higher gear downshifts.
As an update, I was able to do some high gear, high RPM downshifts on the Interstate and it works absolutely wonderfully. My DCT second guessing has been greatly decreased.

OP why don't you just buy an automatic since, as a true enthusiast, you're not interested in learning and mastering MT driving skills? The DCT already incorporates that rev match feature you desire + having only 2 pedals is a lot easier. Having 3 pedals but only 2 legs never made sense to me either, OP.

kaiv wroteThere are tons of people who don't know how to heel-toe double clutch so this is a good thing to start with. Thanks OP for introducing this aftermarket feature. I would love to try it out if I had a MT.
I would be all over this if I lived nearby you!
I would dare tackle this by myself! I will do more research on it tho!

Bimmer-M3 wroteHeel-toe and double clutching are two different things meant to do two different things. cenix wroteWell this took longer than I thought but here we go. I even asked nicely for the thread to not evolve into this but some people have an ego too big to just not comment on something in which they are clearly not interested. What does your comment contribute to this discussion? If you don't want it then do not buy one. It's pretty simple.Heel-toe and double clutching are two different things meant to do two different things. This auto-blipping feature has no business on a manual transmission period.
Since you want to go down this road, why is this now standard equipment on Porsche and C7 Corvette manual cars? They have no business doing it because clearly YOU are the authority on the subject. Maybe you should start a letter writing campaign. While you are at it please lobby to get rid of synchros and ABS. Real men double clutch and threshold brake.
Bushum wroteYou're overly sensitive; take a breath and stop trying to be so combatative to defend a part you've installed on your car. I never made a personal comment to you, in fact, I was responding more to the quoted text where he refers to heel-toe double clutching as a singular event. It's not. cenix wroteNo, you are not going to turn this around and make it look like I am the one in the wrong. You made a statement that you knew was provocative in order to solicit a certain reaction. You provided no constructive feedback either positive or negative. You explicitly made a purely negative comment in order to get a reaction and now you are acting as if that reaction surprises you. I am not being combative to defend my car. I am being combative because I am tired of contrarians being negative for its own sake just to look edgy. Every post pubescent male on the internet thinks he is the definition of a car enthusiast and everyone else is wrong. You're overly sensitive; take a breath and stop trying to be so combatative to defend a part you've installed on your car.
This is not the part of your post I took issue with but I think you know that already. For some reason you failed to mention the contentious part.I was responding more to the quoted text where he refers to heel-toe double clutching as a singular event. It's not. Good luck to you and your auto-blipper.

Looking forward to hearing more and would definitely like to have this feature on my 6-MT. Sometimes I just want to experience a good blip without executing it other times I'll do it myself.
