A quick question on one of your earlier posts, When and how do you determine that it is necessary to flush the oil system to remove any old bearing material? Also is this a lengthy process?

It depends on what we're presented with, sometimes only a minor flush is needed. More serious cases will need extra attention to make sure all airborne particles are removed as best as possible.
2 more bearing services performed and we're only in the beginning of July, one of them was lucky to get here in time.

From what Blackstone is saying looks like your bearings are in good condition, pretty impressive for the mileage.

As we know oil reports can be completely wrong but it's good to see none the less.

fyi im picking up my car from eas either today or tomorrow because of total bearing failure. i had my engine blackstoned 4 months ago with perfect results.

Hopefully I didn't miss the answer to my question in a previous post, but the bearings that you provide in the service...are they OEM-sized? I have read in other threads that many of the "better" replacement bearings available have increase coating thickness and thereby reduce the needed clearance.

That is true on coated-type bearings. WPC are not coated, they are a "treatment" performed to the bearings
WPC Treated Connecting Rod Bearings
WPC is a proven process that has been utilized for many years in the racing and automotive industry. WPC is not a coating, it is a treatment that enhances the surface to reduce friction and strengthen engine parts. WPC achieves this process by firing ultra fine particles towards the surface of a product at very high speeds. The resulting thermal discharge permanently changes the surface, strengthening structure and creating a harder more durable final product.

The WPC process is unrivalled in treating engine parts and other surfaces that have contact points of friction. WPC is superior because it is not a coating; it is a permanent surface treatment that reduces friction while strengthening the part. It's unique micro-dimple formation pattern greatly reduces friction and is unmatched by conventional methods of surface treatment.

The fine grooves, that are intrinsically engraved into the product surface at the time of machining, are transformed into micro-dimple indentations by the impact of the ultra-fine media during WPC treatment. These dimples then act as oil reservoirs. Thus, oil that would normally drain away, through the grooves in an untreated product, when pressure is applied, is instead retained in the dimples of a WPC treated product. This helps to keep the surface lubricated.

It does help, thank you! So, a superior, treated surface to help reduce friction AND keep oil in place.

My 2008 M3 coupe (i'm the 2nd owner) has 34,000 miles on it and has had all the oil changes performed on time. I'll get a Blackstone report done soon to see if I can I learn anything of the status of the bearings.

How have these WPC coated bearings been holding up? After the past couple years has anyone done an inspection to see how these have held up?

Haven't had anyone pull them out after we have done the service since the WPC treatment is relatively new. If we do get a chance to pull out the bearing that have been done we will be sure to post results though.

Oil Used: TWS Motorsport 10W-60, 7500mi intervals
Mileage: 62,833 mi
Fuel: 91 Oct
Driving Habits: Street driving, no track use
Oil Analysis: None provided

Notes:
M3 was just purchased on used market, came in with audible ticking. After getting oil analysis performed, it was quickly scheduled in for bearing service. Engine failure imminent if not attended to immediately.

Bearings were replaced with WPC Treated Bearing Set & ARP Rod Bolts. Engine and oil cooler/lines flushed to clean out any remaining debris.

As seen, bearing #2 suffered the most damage, with all remaining bearings showing considerable wear. Bearing particles were visible in oil filter element, required flushing to make sure all particles were removed from engine, lines and cooler.

How did you flush the lines and oil cooler to remove metal particles? Any update on how this car is running? Was the crank scored up? That bearing looked pretty shot.
