After a lot of research, I decided to call Mike Benvo at BPM about a year ago. I initially was clued into his coding ability by several members of this board and had him code my car, but had plans for a meth kit with Vishnu as far as engine tuning went. By the time the conversation between Mike and I was over, I had amended my plans for him to tune my engine as well.

After buying and modding cars for years and years, you learn quickly who knows what they're talking about, and who's full of shit. Mike's knowledge on the coding logic of BMW's is second to none, do a search if you don't believe it (because I didn't). Anyways, I figured if he knew this much about coding, his engine tune was superior as well--which it is.

One of the ONLY thing's I don't like about our generation of M3, is the usable bottom end torque. Mike's tune strengthens torque and horsepower throughout the powerband, enabling the car to pull MUCH harder all the way to the top. It literally feels, and sounds, like a different car. I was blown away. He also tuned out cold start and enhanced throttle response on the Normal power setting because I asked him to, as well as Euro MDM and other goodies. Oh yea, I'm live in Alabama and he did all of the work remotely.

On top of all of this, is Mike's customer service. As stated earlier, I received my coding/tuning package a year ago and the guy still answers any and all questions I have with a simple text or call. I'm unsure when he sleeps (maybe he has someone manning his phone 24/7?) but I get responses back at all hours. It's kind of weird. Far and away, the most personable guy to deal with in an industry full of all types of people.

Simply put, I trust nobody more than Mike for any of my coding/tuning/BMW inquiries. I fully believe the reason for his success is his enthusiasm for working with these cars--he loves his work and it's apparent. It's also what I believe sets him aside from most anybody else in the industry. BPM isn't just a business endeavor to him.
Unfortunately, this thread won't help much as the OP will only be to read most experiences from members justifying the choices they made (regardless of brand).

Others will notice: there's not one single dyno in the thread.

Some do the research, some get the cheapest price, some go after the best marketing. It's sort of like the "what's the best exhaust for my M3" threads that populate the forum.

Very few people have experience with multiple tunes to give their opinion on what's actually "the best". Even less have dyno data to back it up. In the end, it's strictly a popularity contest with little to no dyno data to present facts. You can change this by getting a baseline dyno (preferably with a dynojet) before and after whichever tune you choose, and post your results for all to see. This way, everyone will benefit from it.

Hopefully, this will become a trend in the near future.

We made the choice to run ESS since they provide good communication, brick & mortar facility, excellent pre/post communication and can provide real-world results and take it to the next level by supercharging these motors on a daily basis - they know the DMEs inside and out and there are plenty of examples proving this from real-world experiences and customer testimonials.

Of course, everyone will have their preferred tuner they are most comfortable with, and that's perfectly fine.
BPM here.

Rather than what I had. I created a thread to answer the OP question.
Hello all! Im pretty sure this isnt the best place to post or ask this but im too new to start my own thread. I just yesterday ordered a new space grey M3. I ve been trolling these posts and havent come across anything about BMW discontinuing your factory warranty for adding a tune to your car. I currently drive an RS4 and was told by many and audi a new tune would end my CPO status. there are many stories on audi forums about this. what im asking is if I tune will i lose my factory warranty? thank you guys in advance.
I went with Bpm tune... Wow car runs great and made a huge difference.. Gonna contact mike now I want the dct tune 😜.... Can wait to really test them at Fontana track day may 5
1.) Test pipes
2.) BPM stage 2

Game over unless you're doing a super charger then game on.
BPM Stage II for me....best decision i've ever made..except of course to buy the M in the first place ;)

Look...i read & post on this forum for more than one year now , and from what i have read is that the BPM tune is transparant for your BWM dealer,so i think it's no problem:thumbsup:
BTW...i will contact Mike ( BPM-TUNING ) soon ,but i need to find time,i work in 3 shifts + the time difference, and in the end ...i will get the BPM tune and that is 100 % sure !
Now...you can alway's contact v v v he is the expert ! (and that...we all know)

False. No tune is transparent, every situation is different.
Please read to the end.

In December 2012 I decided to supercharge my car with ESS 550 kit. The kit was a great purchase and I giggled everytime I floored the throttle. Not a single issue of ownership for the 3 months I had it. I sold my kit to a local customer for my own reason which I am not going to disclose at this time. Please don't assume I sold it "because it wasn't that great". The kit was a great kit. After removing the charger, my car was flashed to 240e software

I have many dynoes to prove the kit worked as I was swtiching between exhausts and midpipes.

After the charger unistal, I wanted to get an N/A tune. My two consideration were BPM and ESS. I did talk to both companies before making a decision. Since I already had the ESS cable, I contacted ESS and purchased their ESS tune - 91 octane. My main motivations were: I had the cable, ESS delivered solid on their charger product, and cost (had the cable) Driving a couple of days, I can't say anything bad about the tune, and I can't say I was disapointed either. The car felt stronger although it felt like the throttle felt remapped to be more sensisitve at mid rpms - that is you would have to depress the throttle less to accelerate faster when compared to stock. I did baseline dyno before installing the ESS kit and a couple of days later, I dynoed again. I burned through a tank of gas for adaptations. I lost power. (dyno attached: Blue line - Baseline car in December prior to installing the charger. Red Line - Stock 240e software after charger unisntall. Green Line: ESS tune - 3rd pass).

This got me kinda pissed. How can I lose power with a tune. The weather station was working fine, I did a few runs back to back, the car adapted over a weekend of driving, same octane, similar conditions, same dyno fan. There were no variables that I could explain why the car lost power. I have p3cars gauage - which is one the coolest things I ever bought for this car. During the runs (both baseline and ESS) I video taped the IGN targets and monitored IAT. After the dyno operator was finished, he mentioned that he noticed targets dropped off in the higher rpms. When reviewing the video, they did. I won`t mention what numbers, but they did.

After this I decided to contact Mike at BPM. After talking to him for 35minutes (God bless Fido and the lack of their long distance plan :() I knew that he wa very knowledgable about the S65, and ECU programming. After the conversation, I was amazed at how much I learned about the car in general and many tuning variables. I purchased stage 1 tune from Mike and cables were sent out. I got my car tuned last Monday (April 08). The whole process took about 40 minutes, but could have taken less because Mike was bouncing between phone calls ;) the dude seems to be very much in demand nowa days :).

I haven`t had a chance to hit the dyno, but I don`t have to, to realize that this tune is amazing. Everything from 2,000rpm onwards is pure joy. Any way you choose to drive this car - part throttle, full throttle ... everything, everything is so much better. Throttle is smooth and progressive, idle is rock solid. The biggest amazement to me was how much low and mid range torque gains and the repsonse. The car is truly transformed. I have had 2 of my friends drive the car and they couldn`t believe it either. The torque down low is very very noticable. Given the fact that I`ve had the 550 kit, and have had much experience with the VF 540 kit (friend). I can say with confidence that the tq between 2-4k is the same as it was with the 550 kit, only throttle reponse is better. No word of a lie, I`m not inflating anything, this is really how I feel.

Overall I am extatic (sp) about this tune. I can`t believe I didn`t do this earlier. The car feels so much lighter and so much smoother in every part of the RPMs. Its a night and day difference between stock and BPM stage 1. I`ll be honest, driving this car for more than a week, I was always listening to the engine, looking for a ping, noises, engine note. Guess what. I heard 2 pings .... two ... for one week of driving. I WOT low rpms, I accelerate hard from low rpms, uphill. I tried to replicate those two pings again ... nothing, just pure engine scream to redline. Today a friend of mine was driving the car and we lost traction in 2nd gear midrange (DSC off - don`t even start). This would never happen before.

Please note, I have no affiliation with Mike Benvo in any way. No one has influenced my decision and opinions in any way. I`m simply stating what I feel for the community. I wanted to do this review earlier, but I witheld because I wanted to put some km on the car, and overcome my feelings of overexcitment before I post something.

I haven`t even got to the coding part because I`m so excited about driving the car now.

Looking forward to seeing dyno results on your BPM tune as comparison to your previous tune.

Mike did the remote coding on my car. We spoke over Skype and all went smoothly. Couldn't be happier. He's happy to accommodate our time difference too. The day he tuned my car, he did one in New Zealand too. Get the tune and it's worth every $$$$.

He must be one tuner who is everywhere all the time.

Good write up and to the point. Looks like all those who were BPM tuned are happy overall.
I went from Dinan tune to BPM...no dyno graphs other than the butt dyno, but the feel in the way the car drives was enough to justify the change (more linear and less clunky if that's the proper description).

Power or no power, the car just drives better with my BPM tune. For me that was just as important as the additional throttle response.
We offer our E9x M3 HEX FLASH software which gives you a ~17-18whp gain, a ~16ft/lb torque gain and hair-trigger throttle response.

There was similar thread posted recently. Mike gave some very detailed info as well in one of his posts.

Sorry for the confusion, I posted the wrong dyno.
It looks like you dyno tested on different days before and after. Tunes make very little power maybe 10-12 whp by themselves. Without same day testing conditions, fuel etc.. your numbers can vary 5-10 hp or so very easily. I highly doubt you actually lost power unless you did not warm up the car before you ran it or there was another factor involved. Do you have all of the files from the tuned dyno runs? if so can you post them? If you notice on your dyno's the two stock baseline runs are 3 runs apart and 16 min apart, you made 10 whp more on the later of the two, why? most likely because your car was up to ideal operating temp by then VS your first run. Big mistake people make with this car is not knowing it has to be in it's ideal operating temp to deliver the best perfromance on a dyno. Not saying this is the case for you but without comparing several tuned runs back to back there is no way to know.
look at the end of the day you have to find what makes you happy...not what makes OTHER people happy. at this point in the game yes it is a popularity contest for which tuner to go with because so many people have already purchased a tune. however back in day 1, it wasn't a popularity game because there was no reputation to be had. to say the least it amazes me how long ess has been around and how long bpm has been around. if you can get this many people to stand by benvo's tune in just a short amount of time well shit they must be doing something right. in no way am i saying that ess' tune is inferior or that there is a superior choice. maybe there is and maybe there isn't, i'm not educated enough in that field to ever make a statement about it. but when we all know that only a small amount of power can be extracted from just a tune, on a stock s65, then it comes down to the tuner personally. their customer service, knowledge, and so forth. yes dyno graphs are great proof to back up the talk, but when you have so many people here who say nothing but amazing things about this tune...what more do you want? jump on the bandwagon
Mike Benvo / BPM Sport FTW!

My car is coded/tuned/transmission-software equipped by Mike, and I love it. Never have had a single issue, and never seen any of his clients cars come in and have warranty problems.
Dyno sheets do not matter much in this case. Part throttle torque response is noticed by the driver not wot dynos. Peak power is not the key here. We are not taking about 600whp vs 500whpbut more of over all improvement from a totally stock vehicle. this is the key. If Bpm can tune a stock car and make it feel lighter, faster and sounding like a jet plane what can mike accomplish with aftermarket performance part. I'd be interested in having him scope out my file to check for hidden power. :) no offense vf your kit is really bullet proof.
