The one scenario where I always use folding mirrors is when we load cars on car transports. It's a must-have for loading an M3 on a car transport safely.

There are dozens of neutered features for US market cars. Luckily, coding brings them back to see the light of day.i loved it before i got it coded because i never had this feature before...but after i got it coded it love it even more and makes a whole a lot more sense! i don't get why bmw didn't do that from the factory, as well as rolling windows up with the fob.

I'll fold in tight parking situations, but not at a mall parking lot in a very spacious area..
Drove my dads e60 M5 once and had the mirrors folded, came back to it later and one was folded out and one was still folded. Not sure what happened but obviously was tampered with.

You need ZPP. Press the button next to the mirror side change switch.
Did a search in the DIY forum and couldn't find anything about mirrors auto folding. Can someone post a link to the thread discussing this?

You'll learn about all kinds of subtle little features that can really make the car that much cooler/more convenient day-to-day. Some of the convenience features I enjoy most I only found out about from reading it -- like changing the startup Power/EDC settings, all the possibilities of split view iDrive, audio streaming over Bluetooth, iDrive shortcut button possibilities (they're not just radio presets!), the list goes on. I'm sure right now you're more focused on enjoying your new baby (responsibly! and within the break-in limitations!) but it's worth sitting down on a weekend for a bit and paging through it.
Quick question - I have the switch for the mirrors on the left side but the mirror no longer tilts down when I put the car in reverse (or it does so intermittently)... any ideas ?

In the states, their sole purpose is to attract extra attention from drunk kids walking home from bars, who will then try to rip them off. I have never folded my mirrors other than going into a car wash.
The ///MEST sticker on the windshield was probably a contributing factor as well.
To bad OP doesn't live in SoCal, otherwise tlp could get his mirrors coded.
I like them folded when I leave the car because of all the damn SUV's around. They make it tight to walk between cars in parking lots and people run into the car mirrors a lot more than the big ass SUV mirrors. In the garage, our van door will also hit the mirrors if they're not folded on the wife's car and I have my car in a single garage, and it's nice to be able to fold them when backing out. It's also more room to move around in the garage with them folded.

Probably could get away with not having this functionality but I do fold them in (with the switch!) in shopping car parks and coming in and out of my entrance to the carpark which is tight.
Dont think anyone cares here about it and doesnt draw any extra attention, half the cars here have that functionality and use it!

I joined these forums almost a year and a half before I bought the car. A friend had one, another friend had an E92 335, took a few trips to the dealership, got used to it, read the manuals, etc. Did a lot of research prior to pulling the trigger. I didn't want to get into something I'd regret later on.
But to some people, money ain't a thang, so they don't care if they spend a lot on a car and don't know anything about it and wind up disliking something because they'll just get rid of it and get something else.
