folding mirrors

just got my E92 M3 on monday. how do i get the side mirrors to fold?

theres a button on the side arm rest right before the window buttons. Its right next to the mirror selector switch right below the speaker

+1 and if you leave the mirror button to the left the passenger side moves down when you reverse

Not to be one of "those people" OP, but I highly recommend reading the manual. You'll learn about all kinds of subtle little features that can really make the car that much cooler/more convenient day-to-day. Some of the convenience features I enjoy most I only found out about from reading it -- like changing the startup Power/EDC settings, all the possibilities of split view iDrive, audio streaming over Bluetooth, iDrive shortcut button possibilities (they're not just radio presets!), the list goes on. I'm sure right now you're more focused on enjoying your new baby (responsibly! and within the break-in limitations!) but it's worth sitting down on a weekend for a bit and paging through it.

Not entirely sure if it's standard now, but I remember it being part of the premium package when I got mine.
1 on RTFM. No offense intended.

Yeah, they are pretty awesome. I just got to get it coded to use them with the FOB key

I see a lot of cars in my work's parking lot that have their side mirrors folded, every day.

Does anyone else do this? I just feel like it's extra work on myself and the mechanics, and don't really see the point.

Anyways, I do think it's worth it... Other people can hit the mirrors when opening their doors, or just bang them with their own mirrors while driving. I don't use the feature all the time, just in tight side and parallel parking spaces.

yeah i feel like it can draw extra attention..

"whoa look at that car over there, it's mirrors look messed up"
"oh both are, they must have folded them to keep the car from getting hit or something"
"im gonna go mess with them, its a bmw and all bmw drivers suck, I need to show him that he's not better than everyone else on the road."

I'll fold in tight parking situations, but not at a mall parking lot in a very spacious area..

Drove my dads e60 M5 once and had the mirrors folded, came back to it later and one was folded out and one was still folded. Not sure what happened but obviously was tampered with.

I meant I have not coded the car yet (lack of time). But just do a search... Plenty of good threads on DIY, or go to the sellers' threads.

I don't have this problem in Germany, but I know what you're saying. Haters!

I don't really need to fold mine anymore since I can park it in my garage now, but when I used to live in an apartment and sometimes parked on the street, I folded them. Some moron will come barreling down the road in his F350 super duty and rip your mirror right off. It happens.

While they are nice I recommend not to use them in the winter time. Ice and snow gets between them and they will hang up and or blow the fuses and mechanism.

+10000 Come to think of it! There are a ton of sweet features that come in hand very nicely in the day to day convenience. They really let you personalize your baby to just exactlly how you want it.
Scuffling outside right now to get the owners manual to set it aside for some reading.

folding mirrors are a joke. I've used mine probably 3 times in the year and half that I've had this car. They barely tuck in much at all.

what limitations are you referring to?

im keeping it under 4000rpm for 2000miles... any other limitations i should be aware of?

When I park I hit the button. It's automatic for me. Gives people more room to walk between cars and less likely to experience damage if a door is opened too wide.

Coding makes Folding mirrors much more versatile. When I want them up I just hold the lock button on the remote or door for a couple extra seconds. When I arrive and unlock the car the mirrors automagically unfold. Playing with button on the door is barbaric.

i loved it before i got it coded because i never had this feature before...but after i got it coded it love it even more and makes a whole a lot more sense! i don't get why bmw didn't do that from the factory, as well as rolling windows up with the fob.

totally worth it when your parking spaces are more narrow. also a smart thing to have in a parallel parking situation when bikers and clumsy walkers are swiping past your car.

as for extra work... if you feel that pushing a button on your door panel is a lot of extra work, how do you feel about pushing your foot on the gas pedal?
