Awesome project!
Sick, as they say.
Congrats James! Always fun to read about your successes and what the Bimmwerworld Team is doing....

Happy Holidays!

Chris
Amazing and congrats!
What kind of wheels are those? The black ones in the first picture.

^^^ Those. 18x9.5 currently, but we will be staggering with the new power level coming and likely going wider all around if we can get the bodywork we want completed. These wheels have been outstandingly durable - they take a huge beating on track and it usually takes another car or a wall to bend them.
James, awesome looking project car. I'm curious about the gold heat shield tape...have you guys found it to result in measurable differences in intake/engine temperatures? seems like a great idea conceptually. Thx

Air intake at race speeds - minimal, but a tick here and there helps. The plastic is pretty good and the airflow rate there is quick, so not as big of a deal. The gold stuff is great for radiant heat though - protecting shock canisters from glowing headers, protecting fuel cells from mufflers, etc. We also use a second type of insulation at times that has some air barrier built in that is effective in some other applications.
Thx, nice to know. Hard to tell from the pics, but is the gold heat tape also on the bottom of the airbox? Have you guys also tested/seen any benefit of wrapping some/parts of the exhaust in exhaust wrap?

We have approached the plenum multiple ways with multiple materials, including all surfaces. Just not a really noticeable difference there.

We have done header wraps, coatings, etc. Probably the biggest benefit is underhood temps, which help shock absorbers, especially with remote reservoirs. We see minimal power difference, but protecting other components is important. Sometimes with our race tuning, the headers can get to glowing yellow or hotter, especially in warmup.
I love the gold on the engine cover!!
Looks great
Thread resurrect!
What weight of Redline oil do you run in the race cars?
With all the rod bearing discussion today on the S65, what weight do you guys recommend for street cars driven with “enthusiasm”?
Thanks!

A couple of qualifiers here...
  • For a standard wet-sump M engine revving over 7k, we run a Race 50WT (which is actually a 15W50 from memory)
  • For a street car, same engine - 10W50 or 15W50 Red Line High Performance
So..... not (?) ...their 5w-50?

In the winter if you love in super cold climates maybe?
I don't think they (Redline) make 10w-50 high performance anymore. Currently running a cocktail blend of 10w-60 with some 5w-50...
