US Spec M3 in Europe (extra costs?)

Dear M3 fanatics,

I'm planning on getting an E92 M3 next year... I read about the ED and was wondering what extra costs I'd have to make to the US Spec M3 to make it road-legal in Belgium...
I heard a rumor that I'd have to change the tires for example...

Any information is more than welcome!

Are you in the US or in Belgium currently?

I'm asking because if you're in Belgium ED won't work for you as BMWNA won't sell you a car.

I'm in Belgium... though there must be a way to solve that problem f.e. Ordering it through US family and saying that we'll handle the EU to US transport ourselves...?

Damn that's quite a list... Are there companies who are specialized in converting Us spec M3 into EU spec M3?

Euro delivery requires the car be shipped from EU to US within 6 months of delivery or buyer must pay "taxes and penalties."

I have another question for you all-knowing people...

If I, a Belgian resident, would buy an M3 in Germany f.e. through my company I'd be free of any tax whatsoever (something called intracommunity delivery). Would I also have this benefit when ordering a car in the US?

Probably not...you're still a resident of Belgium. You might have more problems with converting it from the U.S. Spec to Euro spec due to different software setup..Americans get a slightly different ECU compared to a Euro version...plus U.S. M3's come with four Cats....I believe the Euro spec either has two less or none at all..thats why they get 420hp compared to the 414hp the U.S. gets...it might be more of a hassle to do it that way just to save the 21 or 19% for Belgium or Germany tax..just my two cents.

You should be asking this question to a local BMW shop in Belgium that knows what needs to be done that meets local laws, and that's if feasible at all.... whatever you are trying to save could end up being several times over in conversion efforts.

If you export the vehicle you get the taxes back, I´ve done this a couple of times. Now, if anyone wants Fox Red Euro seats, I have a set left over, only the two front seat with everything on them except heater.

I used Automobile concept a few years ago to import a 996. Call Sylvia at 305 893 1950, it's what they do, import & export cars. They're licensed by the EPA & DOT.

The U.S. M3 does not have brake energy regeneration like the Euro models. Search it if you want to learn more. It basically disconnects the alternator at full throttle.

I think the european delivery will not work out because of the temporary registration and the car is meant for export. You most certainly won't get any help from BMW on the matter. I think better you find an available car in the US and ship it yourself.
