PPF Issue

Hello. First time BMW owner (had Audi's in the past). I picked up a 26 BMW M3 G80 that was already PPF and ceramic coated.

However, during my first car hand washing, I just noticed that the PPF was starting to peel at the bottom of the passenger door (see pic).

What is the best approach to fixing this or do I need to get it entirely door PPF again?

Did you have a follow up appointment after the initial install? You usually need to have a revisit in like a week or 2 after the initial install to check for bubbles/loose edges like this.

Most likely what will happen is that they will trim it or they will have to redo the panel if the edge doesn't adhere correctly anymore.

Oh I missed that part. Whoops lol.

Yeah, hopefully a local shop can help you out if you don't know who the original installer is or what the original film used was.

PPF aren't all the same so I would be wary of replacing just the panel just due to texture/gloss. Hopefully they can save it by just trimming it.

Some brands of PPF and shops offer a transferrable warranty on recent work which the OP should inquire about.
The OP stated he just picked up the car, was it purchased from a dealer or a private seller? If a dealer, I would simply bring it back to them and have them fix the issue.

Based on the photo showing where it had peeled off I don't think the proper approach is trimming as the exposed backside of the PPF is filthy and a good shop would want to wrap it around the bottom of the door instead of simply showing an edge on the outside.

The PPF on my doors were done over 4.years ago and they haven't peeled off like this. 😉

I purchased it as preowned from dealer and previous owner was someone who worked there.

I took it to another detailer that was recommended by my trusted auto repair shop and they fixed it without trimming so all good so far.
