I took delivery of a new X5 last year and as a gift BMW provided a free experience at their Performance Center. I have been there before when I did a delivery of my F80 M3 almost 9 years ago.
I was really impressed by the event and things like this continue to keep me as a loyal BMW owner now for almost 20 years with 8 new BMWs purchased in that time.
1 - Event starts out with brief instruction.
2 - Then we did the offroad trail in X5 M60. I don’t do any offroading whatsoever so for me this was very cool to experience. We drove through deep water, up very steep hills, over rocks that put you on 3 wheels and in tight turn on a serious incline where I’m still not sure how these things don’t tip over lol
3 - This was a surprise. They provided real M cars to do 3-4 laps in each going full speed in Sport+ mode. I got to drive M2, M4, M5 and i5. The M2 and M4 were both very fun. The M5 was really heavy and the tight corners were not conducive to the massive weight. i5 was a boat lol Overall I think M4 was the most composed and fastest which makes sense as it was xdrive comp.
4 - Instructor took us on a Fun Lap in the M3 which was obviously epic and included some drifting.
While the whole thing was about 1:30-2 hours, it was super fun experience and huge props for BMW providing this for FREE! I wanted to do PCD delivery again like with my M3 but scheduling with work is always complicated so this was much easier as they give you a year to use the offer. My only recommendation was maybe to provide some chachki as part of the experience, but overall 10/10 and highly recommend for anyone that has not done it.
