they discovered the team used 7 sets of tyres overall instead of the permitted 6 sets

during the race they did the same number of pits and tyre changes so it was a stuff up at some point, not during the race. sounds like the team was so new to this they didn't understand the german wording
Dang, that's a pretty basic rule to screw up on.
oh come on. Schumacher did it all the time. ;]

Level playing field. The rules must be observed – DSQ is justified. The team should consider it growing pains. Reculer pour mieux sauter.

Verstappen's first push lap during the qualies (with low traffic) with a Mercedes: grabbed pole position with 7:51.751, almost 2 seconds faster than P2 (7:53.725), an Audi R8 driven by a German Nürburgring veteran (Christopher Haase - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Haase) + gives an interview in fluent German.

George Russell is fully entitled to get very nervous about keeping his Mercedes F1 seat for the 2027 season: at risk of 'getting Sainz'd'.
Aha so the tyre mix up was in quali and not during the race.
So out of all that a BMW M4 conversion was declared the winner.
Here are the best bits in spite of the technical tyre anomaly from the TEAM MAX tyre manager

Formula 1. Many years ago.
Verstappen could have told the organizers after the race: "I know what you're thinking: 'Did he use seven tire sets or only six ?' Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself." ;)

As someone noted: "F1 foots the bills, but this keeps his racing blood pumping."

Say what you want, but Verstappen is a crowd-pleaser. A race legend. People want to see his exploits while it's still possible. "Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone ?"

Well Franz Hermann drove himself to the Ring his own set of tyres, and the team didn't realise Franz always drives everywhere on race tyres and hence there was an extra set ...

probably ... :D
