Awesome awesome vid. I had no clue the motor was so widely used in so many different forms/applications. Definitely a race motor at it's roots.
Amazing post, thank you OP!
great post man.. just spent way too much time watching all those videos !
OP, this is incredible -- thanks so much for putting this together and posting.

so proud of this motor.
This is what you call a true race inspired motor, and one benchmark engine BMW M has produced
Inspiring racers

Just read on my top gear app this morning - the M4 DTM car also uses a 4L V8. Betcha that's a S65 derivative ..... They are gonna stay in the 4L V8 configuration before the entire series moves to 2L turbo 4s in 2017.
Some legacy of our beloved S65....
 that says a lot, the official M4 DTM is using our E92 M3 V8 not that generic 3.0L 435i turbo engine in the m4

The s65 sucks , it doesn't make 500wtq @ 2k rpm. My trip to wallmart is not fun!
;) yeah to hell with a stratospheric racing high revving engine, I need a farting 500 lbs/ft torque at 500 RPM turbo so i can do useless donuts around a merry-go-round carousel at the state fair. It works for circus shows too. That's the correct priority for Motorsport !
Tempted to run mine out to 9000RPM... Have a 8600 tune on now.
this thread is awesome
Very cool compilation, thanks for sharing!

Its amazing how the s65 is used on so many platforms. Since bmw just released the M6 GT car, I guess that will be the next motor in racing? Not the s55?
Quite the dichotomy from the S55, which BMW won't even use in their GT cars.
Much appreciated. This is the best post I've seen in 2015.
Awesome post OP, thanks! Now where to find a 4.7l 600 bhp swap... :burnrubbe
Great post! Thanks for this. I had no idea S65 variants were racing in LMP cars.
Really cool info! Thank you for sharing!
I believe it was Remus that recently came out with an exhaust for the M4. Everyone in that thread for the most part was raving about how awesome it sounded. I decided to compare it to the Remus E92 M3 exhaust and there was no competition.. The E92 M3 exhaust gave me goosebumps while the M4 one sounded like a civic.
Awesome post!
Great thread I always search for what ways the s65 is used. Did a lot better than me.
Extremely interesting post, modest amounts of horsepower in very exotic lightweight cars.
Thanks OP. I haven't watched videos due to a Youtube block at my firm but hope to watch from home if I remember.

Not to burst anyone's S65 Motor boners but BMW M4 DTM retained the P66 due to regulations, not out of preference.

DTM cars are required to run a V8 engine with an air restrictor, with a 90° cylinder bank and output not to exceed 500 bhp at no more than 4000 ccm.

It's not like DTM runners get to upgrade their engines as they all independently create new chassis for the road going counterparts to their DTM cars.

In 2016 DTM is moving to 2 liter 4 cylinder turbo engines. They will be skipping any version of an inline 6 turbo. Come 2016 you can bet that a delusional 428i owner will be telling an N55 or S55 owner that a 4 banger turbo is superior because BMW "chose" to use a 2l 4 cyl turbo to run in their DTM M4.

Anyway...

This is why Brent in the roll caged out Miata will rip you to shreds in the parking lot cone extravaganza next weekend.
Too bad about those emissions standards. It would have been amazing to see what BMW would have done with an iteration of the S65B44 from the GTS and CRT in the F8x. Now that would have been something special.
Great post! Keep the good work up!
