Hey guys! Haven't been around in a while -- just traded in my '07 E92 335i for a '09 E93 M3. Alpine white over black. Pics to come in the garage when I can get a nice coat of wax on it.

More pedestrian question -- how many people actually drilled into their front bumpers for this stupid VA front plate? I see from the pics from the Philly Steak run last weekend that there were a few VA people there who left the front plate off. Anyone ever get pulled over/ticketed for that? Frequency if so?

Unless I can find a bracket that goes in the grill I might just flaunt tempt fate...man seems a sin to drill into that bumper. Maybe I can register the car in Penn or something...

Thanks guys!
If you don't put it on you will eventually get pulled over for it. Once you get pulled over for it you are in their system and each time a cop pulls you over he will go check for your front plate.
Yeah, I see from reading old posts (search first!) that many people just risk it. Dang

happened to me
but i thought no front plate is a secondady offense
meaning he can't pull you over for just that
but if he does pull you over for something else he can then ticket you for frnt plate

Nope.

VA can and will pull you over for anything.
When I got my car I told them I would not accept it if they drilled holes in front, on my m3 I never got pulled over for just my front plates, I got pulled over tons for my exhaust and when the cop pulls you over they always check the front just so they can make a few more bucks if your missing it. But I've prob gotten 6-7 front plate tickets and I've paid for none of them. Beat them all. But like dondon said you will eventually prob be pulled over for no front plates.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Came across this as well. Requires drilling but it's on the bottom of the bumper.

Suppose that'd be better than drilling it in the front.

I use this and works well. You do have to drill but it is on the underside, make sure you have a short drill because the lip get in the way.
I use the solution from Wheelsto. Never had an issue...especially down in Virginia Beach...the oceanfront is the worse..not worth the time to go to court for the ticket.
I still don't have one. Won't put one on. But I don't daily drive my car.... I've only gotten tickets while parked in Alexandria.

But, cp-e just made a tow-hook plate... real nice piece of work.
No front plate for me. Just won't do it.
Just ordered the Skene Design bracket. We'll see how it looks!
rhoplate FTW! I want one of these myself. My car has already had the holes drilled but I'm debating getting them filled and getting the rhoplate whenever I get pulled over.
Skene bracket arrived today. 2 days after paypal'ing. Wow. Looks great. They even included a drill bit. I don't even have my plates from the DMV yet to put it on.
you can always use magnets.

Put magnets on the back side of your bumper where the license plate would be, then put magnets on the back of the license plate (strong glue, or whatever).

That way you can have a magnet mount and remove, or put on the license plate anytime you want.

It has been done before:

I forced my dealer to drill mine and install the bracket along with tag. It's just an M3 not some exotic car, even then I wouldn't hesitate to drill it. I drive with piece of mind now without feeling guilty or braking the law.
I'm going to give the autozone thing a trial run this weekend. I wish it was enough to have it on the dash.
If anyone wants the Skene design I am taking mine off the car. I picked up a daily driver so plate is coming off!!
$25, half price
Rhoplate Ftw. Simple, easy on, easy off, and looks great.
you'll get a ticket in arlington / dc while parked. onetime in dc they requested a TOW as my parking meter was over due and no front plates.

I'm still not putting on plates :P
