front plate ticket :(

hey do you guys have any suggestions for getting out of a 'no front plate' ticket in NY? i got one tonight while my car was parked...its never been an issue when passing cops or anything.. i keep it under my floor mat just incase.
Also, does anyone know if its ok to put it in the windshield when you park?

Just pay the fine and move on. You could always get those no holes license plate brackets.

If I park on street, I always attach front plate to bumper.

If you got a ticket, pay up and move on...

You gonna have to attach the plate every time you park on street...

I designed a bracket for front plate quick release, all for under $12 out of Home Depot hardware. There is a thread on it here somewhere. If I find it, I will post it here...

Just pay it. Even if you fight it you will have to pay court costs which is probably a lot more than the actual ticket.

I have gotten 2 tickets in the last 4 months. I just pay them and continue breaking the law because I'm a criminal for not mounting a front plate!

Fuck I thought Jersey busted balls for no front plate but I don't think they can write you while the car is parked.

Gonna get worse with more speed cameras needed to collect the cash

I used to get tickets in NYC used to fight it by placing my plate right under the bumper taking 4 small round stickers putting it on the bumper where the screws would be on the bumper.. (Black Preferred) .. Take the picture..

Then go to the judge and explain that the plate was on the car and some idiot backed in and didn't know how to park, SCREWED my bumper and broke my Plate holder !!!!!! .. Since then I got it fixed..

Now you can use that pic over and over again just hope not to get the same Judge.. I have gotten away with if for 5 years..

What worked for me might not work for you. Again I am not stating you should follow what i did to get away from tickets as that is illegal ..

Just a comment that it is not safe to put the plate on your windsheild. In the event of a rear end collision that plate can be a projectile that can slice someone's head off. Sorry to be so graphic but it's just to get a point across. Good luck with your choice. I'm sure you can get the ticket dropped if you go to court and follow some of the suggestions above.

If its your first offence you could always go in and fight the ticket.
They will drop the charge usually if you have a picture with the plate on.
Just say the bracket broke and you were waiting for a new one to come in.
This is the first I have ever heard of someone getting a no front plate ticket
while parked and away from the car.

I don't have front plate and live in NJ. If I ever get a ticket, I will simply (gasp) mount it on the car in the traditional way. We have a beautiful 2010 white M5 in for service with the mount that works through the tow hook threads. IMO, it looks horrible; far worse the the regualr mounted plate holder. While our cars do look better without a front plate, they really don't look all that bad with them. Our '65 Cobra, on the other hand, would look horrible with one.

While I agree the tow hook option is not the most appealing, it is the least invasive. If there were other options that didn't include drilling into the bumper, etc. I'm sure they would be welcomed. Right now that is the only worth it to me.

That sucks. After getting a few no front plate tickets on my E63, I decided to just let the dealer install the front plate on my M3.

Not my first choice, but didn't want the hassle of tickets... especially with the increased fines here in CA.

Yeah, I was thinking of going no plate on my next car and paying the occasional ticket, but as of 1/6/11 the fines appeared to have increased to $178... ouch!!!

i just decided to run plate-less :P

for those of you that have or use the quick release method and attach the plate to the bottom grille, how did you get the plate to fit into that space, the plate is too tall..

$178?! WTF. It used to be $25 or $15 if you showed proof of correction. I got a speeding ticket for 16 over and it was $300-something which is what I expected; I would NOT expect $180 for a front plate ticket!
