So I have been looking at a 2008 E92 M3 with 16,XXX miles. The break in service was preformed on time, but the maintenance records only show 1/2L differential fluid, and an engine oil/filter change. The 6spd tranny fluid was not changed. The car has 16k miles on it. Just wanted to hear your opinions concerning this issue. Should I be worried?

As soon as I get the car, I will have the transmission fluid changed.

Let me know

Thank you

WHY?? It is NOT a service requirement so why do it.
M-DCT boxs may need this but manuals should not.
6 spd manual oil is supposed to be changed during the 1200 oil service but not the DCT tranny
I just checked again on the service record, it says "ADDITINAL SVR PRE-DELIVERY CK W/MANUAL TRAN SVR"

I can't really decipher what the above statement means....but I saw the words "MANUAL" and "TRAN" so I don't know :P Any insight?
I am living in Turkey and argued many times with the service techs for changing the transmission oil on my 6MT and couldn't find any way to persuade them. Finally, they sent an e-mail to BMW Germany and forwarded the reply to me. And it was saying that "no need to change 6MT transmission fluid on 1200 miles or 2000 km service" . I think US M3s has different manual transmission than the European version.

I don't think so...what would be the reason for different trannies?

They could possibly have different fluids, but I doubt that also.... I am gonna call the service guys at the dealer that did the servicing and ask them if they usually change the tranny fluid at 1200 miles. I will also call my independent BMW mechanic and ask him what happens to the fluid if you don't change it after break-in.
