This is not the first time that she has disregarded comments/opinions from her husband the car guy. I've explained to her a number of times that all-wheel drive is not a panacea, and a rear-wheel drive car (with proper tires) is fine in all but the most extreme conditions.

So AWD EV it appears to be. I'm researching the Porsche Macan EV as the potential optimum solution, but the prices are :bulge:. Her current ride is a high-optioned 2021 Porsche Macan GTS so we already know about the "Porsche tax."

For instance, the Macan EV's augmented reality HUD is US$2,530. I'm not aware of a BMW with a similar standalone option, but I'm confident BMWs HUD is far cheaper.
The new Macan Turbo Electric is absolutely awesome to drive and has rear wheel steering as an option and drives amazing and rips to 60 in 3.1 seconds… 💨

I think the Turbo is out of my price range, but no doubt an awesome vehicle.

In a notable shift, more than half of Teslas traded in at dealerships during the first half of 2024 were swapped for gasoline vehicles.

Edmunds data reveals that from January to July 2024, 51% of used Teslas were traded in for gas-powered cars, while just 32% of owners moved on to other EVs. If you include hybrids, the number of Teslas traded for vehicles that use some form of combustion fuel rises to 57%.
I think Elon's general craziness and very heavy pollical lean as of late is probably 50% responsible for this. He has set himself to be the next Mike Lindell (My Pillow guy), but on a vastly wider scale. In the words of Luke Skywalker, "This isn't going to go the way you think!" :D He will be booted from Tesla within a year. He's a huge liability to the brand now.

The Cayman/Boxster is so good they can continue to use the design they had in place since 2013, make a few minor exterior design tweaks, update the infotainment to current Porsche language and probably not do anything to the drivetrains. They could maybe “up” the 4.0l hp for the GTS to the GT4 level and maybe provide a little more boost to the 2.0 and 2.5 and be done. The 2.0 can easily do 350hp and I’m sure they could give the 2.5 375-385hp while keeping the 4.0 around 420.
So everyone that doesn't toe the lefty line should be booted out of business. Good to know.

I mean, I don't really care how much power they put in an EV. I'd like the same amounts of power to be available in ICE cars too, lol. I'm all about equality, give everyone the opportunity to use as much power as they want. An LT7 powered Tahoe for instance would be awesome.

Update: We've crunched some numbers and my wife has conceded that at this point in our late 70s we cannot afford to buy a 100K car. We own two awesome cars, so we will continue to enjoy them. As a car guy, I will continue to watch the "EV wars" on the sideline just for interest. :D

Of course if it was just about a BEV we could no doubt find a satisfactory option at less cost, but she is used to her Porsche luxury and performance.

Some of the reasons there is a shortage of HGV drivers which include long hours, awkward agents at delivery point, bad stop offs, no social life and family upheaval.

i am assuming that is a model x plaid given the price point called out... if they were able to sell that at 150k and now sell it at 88k... it just shows A) how dumb some early adopters are as we are also seeing with the cybertruck which no one wants anymore and B) what a grift Tesla is and what kind of margins they were making...

EVs should be inherently cheaper... its no longer a new technology, we are 12 years in now w the model s... and the cars are super simple and just get simpler and simpler to produce, there is also more competition... a Model 3 should be at best a 35k car lol

Just read up on a Tesla Plaid S 'track package' that will hit 200mph though this will discharge the battery in about 18 minutes so a quick thrill on the autobahn before looking for the charge station, if you make it :)

It would be very unusual for anyone to go 200 mph for 18 minutes on even the Autobahn.
