M3 stripped weights

Further to my other thread, if you lads can help me stick with the M3 id like to put it on a diet - without spending any money.

So without going composite panels etc where can we get a manual 92 down to? This is a track car so I just need to keep my air con only.

Check what dogbone did - lost like 440 pounds and I think that's including adding a roll cage.

ditching weight without spending money is easy. ditching weight and still looking good is expensive.

Is 1400kg / 3000lbs achievable without spending money? How would you do that?

I think weight reduction is cheap you can always remove things at free cost but the Question is how much comfort are you willing to give up. I have seen guys with no interior at all. Not even center console. Literally just dash, seat and shift nob

Pretty stripped is fine with me as I'll only ever use this car on track.

Im currently 1540kg - is there 140kg to be found on the inside? Rear seats already removed and SPG's for driver / pax.

my 6speed is @1295kg / 2855lbs
no driver - 1gallon of gas
including a DMSB/FIA approved welded roll cage (which I need for the races)

We'll rebuild the car in Jan/Feb 2016. Realistically I'll loose another 25kg so
it will get to around 1270kg / 2800lbs.

Everything above is just crazy money and all custom fabrications.
It's possible but I'd better spend the bucks on racing than on even more
high end race parts which only last 40hours.

Thanks lads. Had a look through that thread a while back and apart from remove door cards and changing battery there isn't much else there that would be a "free" reduction.

Luke, thanks for the reply. You're car is very light. Are you running composite panels? I know from your videos there's very little inside your car including your light weight dash.

I've got the idea from Devotec who appeared to be at 1360kg without having changed doors, bonnet, boot etc. mainly an interior strip and akra.

Yeah, I was disappointed to find out that there aren't too many places you can drop a lot of the chassis weight.

Interior
Exhaust
Battery

Everything else is just lots of little bits of weight, but it all adds up.

Lighter rotors, calipers, wheels are fairly easy to tackle too. Lighter unspring weight is nice, but you aren't going to drop any huge numbers.

Wow, that's insane. Would love to know what you had to do to get it that light.

Well. Loooong journey.
Remove the AC and AC compressor as well as the climate box inside your dashboard and build a custom venting system
Carbon dashboard
Remove all not needed wires (that's already easily 10kg/22lbs)
Remove everything Audio, Airbag, GPS, Radio, ...
Replace the battery with a 2kg/4.4lbs LiteBlox battery but do not install
it in the trunk as the long cables will weight more than the battery itself.
Throw on a full Akrapovic
Macrolon windows
Carbon doors, hood, trunk lid,... (like Devotec also has it)
Get an expensive but light FIA approved CroMo4 roll cage (no cheap ST45 or ST52)
Single mass flywheel with a 2disc clutch

Plus the many many small things you do when you have every part in your fingers and start to think about if it can be made lighter or iss needed anymore.

Basically you'll have to start with a naked body shell. Getting the weight so low
is not possible by just adding plug'n'play parts.
It's many small things like: Rear view mirrors for the doors. e92 M3's are way too heavy.
That's why I use the e36 mirrors. but it's not the stock e36 steel mirrors. It's a cheap China copy of the e36 M3 mirrors made out of plastic. But it saves nearly 1kg/ 2.2lbs per mirror
