Are folks installing their MPE by themselves?

I did a search and can't the typical install instructions that you usually find with any installation of a common mod.

So, anyone here who has done it care to weigh in? How hard was it? Can you give me a quick run down of how you did it? (IE ramps? Jack stands? Any bolt issues or anything like that?)

I have ramps and usually do things on my own, but it would probably only be 150 or so to have a shop do it so I'm not really saving a ton of money if I do it on my own.

Also, what other hardware is required for the install? Just the connecting pipes and mufflers? Or do I need to replace clamps or bolts or anything?

When your MPE is new ,it's better when the installation is done by your BMW/Dealer because think about the possible cracks and the waranty of the MPE keep in mind the MPE is not cheap ! > http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=897377
When your MPE is not new,then you can do it by your self ! Why not ?...

Can't comment on hardware, but it's definitely possible to DIY. Much easier if you had 2 people of course.

There's not much to type cause it's pretty self-explanatory.

That's kind of what I figured - I'm wondering if it's possible to do with just putting the rears on ramps though - has anyone attempted it like that? Guess I'll just try it out once I get the exhaust...

Awesome, thanks for digging that post up, that was exactly what I was looking for.

Turns out I have those exact same ramps, so it looks doable. I'm the type of guy that likes to tackle any work on my own if possible - I'll be going at it on my own.

Yup,saw it on here !
Cracks inside the MPE,so not only visible outside the muffler,but weldings on piping inside the muffler creating strange vibration noises !
In such a case mostly the dealer will say MPE was not correctly installed !
Next is... the scenario...your word against their word !
The result you know..but your advantage is...BMW knows about the problem of the cracks, and there is 2 years of waranty !

Anyway I'm realy hoping you have more luck with your's !
To be honest i've said in another thread on here with the same problem....."The cracks are for free ! "

Installing it yourself shouldn't affect the warranty at all. However if you install it wrong (which is basically impossible) and it breaks then you may be out of luck...

My dealer installed the MPE for $89. Not worth my trouble to DIY and no warranty questions later.

It's straight forward and fairly quick. I installed my Akra in 90mins with two beer breaks and I scraped knuckle. May want to check with your service advisor at Hendrick, they replaced two cracked M performance exhaust recently.
