30k Service

30k Service is up in a month or so... right before warranty ends later this year.

What goodies should I ask them to do besides the norm?

wipers?
brakes?

diff fluid, spark plugs, oil, brake fluid, etc.

Power steering fluid, diff oil, trans oil if 6MT (and maybe even DCT if you can get them to), coolant if you've never flushed it, engine air filter, cabin microfilter, and spark plugs. They'll likely tell you that you can wait longer on all of those or never do them at all (and thus Ultimate Service won't cover it), but remember that advice comes from the school of 15K oil changes.

Brakes are a condition-based wear item. Take a look at the pads, replace them if needed, don't if not needed. Same with wipers. If they make a lot of noise while sweeping the windshield and/or leave water streaks, replace them. Otherwise, they're fine.

Mike Miller's Old School BMW Maintenance Schedule is a great reference if you intend to keep the car longer-term. I keep a list of all maintenance items with the mileage and/or time intervals they should be performed if you want it; it's largely based on Mike Miller's list but of course filtered down just for E9x M3 items.

I believe powersteering fluid, coolant, and DCT oil are considered "lifetime" fills by BMW, so it's gonna be almost impossible to have it done under the free maintenance program. I'm not sure of this but I don't think BMW will compensate the dealers if they try and claim such items as part of the free maintenance policy.

Battery (incl. Registration): Every 48-60 months
Brake fluid + clutch bleed: Every 24 months (more if tracked semi-regularly)
Cabin air filter: Every 30,000 miles or 24 months
Coolant: Every 24 months
Differential oil: Every 30,000 miles or 36 months
Engine air filter: Every 30,000 miles or 36 months
Engine drive belt: Every 60,000 miles
Engine oil + filter (8.8 L / 9.3 qt): Every 7,500 miles or 12 months
Fuel filter: Every 60,000 miles
Hoses (coolant + fuel): Every 150,000 miles
Oxygen sensor: Every 120,000 miles
Power steering fluid: Every 30,000 miles
Spark plugs: Every 37,000 miles
Transmission oil (6MT, and ideally DCT if you can get the fluid): Every 30,000 miles or 36 months
Vehicle check (dealer checklist, on iDrive): Every 30,000 miles or 48 months
Water pump and thermostat: Every 90,000-120,000 miles

You're correct, hence the note about things not being covered. I simply thought the OP might have been asking what would be smart to have done at that mileage, not necessarily what could be done for free. If the OP was asking the latter, the answer is, "The dealer will cover whatever their computer tells them to cover at your car's mileage and age -- no more, no less." But in that case there would be no need for this thread since you can't really ask them to give you free service; if BMW won't allow the dealer to charge a service to them, the dealer won't do it on the house.

We'd have to. It may be packaged together with the fuel pump (which is itself inside the fuel tank), in which case it might be expensive, but I can't imagine this car would run for long without a filter to screen out any sludge we might have picked up from a gas station's tanks. As you can tell I haven't had to replace mine yet (only have 27K miles), but I have to believe it's there.

I know spark plugs recommended every 35k orso but iI can tell you iveI've logged data every 70k plus miles at varying age of plugs and after 15k it becomes almost impossible to hit max timing. Plugs for this car aren't just plugs but they regulate timing by being the measurement tool for knock. It uses the current between plug to measure this and thus any little deposits start to effect that signal...

So every 15 k is what I do. Probably lose 10-15 HP if you don't change based on being about 3 degrees less timing on average. I agree normally changing plugs this often would be silly but since they are measuring ionic currentand that is what dictates ignition retardation, its really a sensor too
