Post Grade my M3 repair *Lots of Pics*

Late November 2013, I was involved in a front collision on my M3. Have since got the car back, but I wanted the internetz opinion on the repair. Anyone know how to read and interpret a Car-o-liner report?

Please grade this repair! Full album can be reached here:

Whoever did the work, if asking for payment, should be ashamed - I would take it back, the alignment of the front grille, hood and side panel is off and how their QC passed this and hope to get paid is beyond me.

Did you use a BMW approved shop?

It doesn't look that bad other than the repair cost. The front grill Is part of the plastic bumper which is very soft so room for allotment still exists

Not good as new that's for sure. Paint match seems off too on the bumper. I'd give it a B.

Bumpers always mismatch FYI. Unless it's straight black.

Whens the last time you looked at that rear bumper in your signature?

Some of the alignments look a little off in the front, could be the hood isn't closed, camera angle.. We will never know... If it looks good to you and you are happy this is what matters.

no, this was paid out through insurance, but for some reason they invoiced it as customer paid. I did not pay everything with my own pocket. My deductible was $500

This was not a certified BMW collision center, it was a body shop recommended by the BMW dealer. They claimed they used all OEM parts and BMW OEM paint.

Thanks for all the feedback so far. When I picked up the car, I pointed out the gaps between the bumper/grill, hood, and fenders. But I've been known to be very OCD on stupid minor stuff and so wanted other opinions before I made them adjust it. They offer a life-time warranty on their work so I figure I'll come back later to fix it if needed.

Other thing I was surprised was they outsourced the wheel alignment to a non-dealer shop. This really bothered me because when I originally dropped the car off, they said any mechanical work would be done at the dealership.

Other thing that surprised me was when they said they didn't need to replace the fender rail support. I was under the impression that in event of structural damage, they will pull the piece back, section it off, and weld the new part on. THe response I got from the body shop was they just pulled it back and "reinforced" it whatever that means.

Here's a pic of what i'm talking about:

I think if you just posted photos of the car without any mention of a post-accident repair, all of the people complaining about the quality of the job would probably have said, "Nice car!"

they should be able to fix the gap issue easily. had the bumper replace on mine, and it presented similar problems. you just have to point out to the techs and they can adjust.

If the pictures were included in an ad you have to question whether or not it was in an accident. Misaligned body panels are a good indication that it's been bumped and or repaired. OP take the car back and see if they can line those panels up better. If it were me, that would drive me crazy.

a BMW dealer referring you to a non-certified shop in a major metro-area is silliness...

repair looks good enough and $14k isn't totally unreasonable.

Panel gaps are easy to fix. Make them redo it or do it yourself. There are cars from the factory that are much much worse than this.

I would be more concerned with orange peel, color match, drips, fisheyes, dust, etc.

This. Have you guys seen some of the cars that come from factory? I was disgusted with the way I got my m3, I had to pay a bodyshop to re-align everything to my standard.

The panel gaps are not straight. I would get the bodyshop to re-align the panels.

The dealership probably gets a fee for referring you to that bodyshop. There's really no reason not to take your BMW to a BMW factory approved bodyshop.

Factory approved shops will have all the proper tools, computers and most importantly, the experience of fixing BMW's. A mom and pop body shop may touch only a handful of BMWs' all year.

For me personal and for $14,200 USD these gaps are looking nok
The color difference looks normal because i see it also on my car and had never a body repaint, reason for the color difference is because the ///M3 has different body materials like plastic(front spoiler, fenders),aliminium (hood),doors(metal)
Actualy i see 3 different colors on my SSII ,and i have seen a new AW it was even worse !

NEVER EVER get repairs done by a Non BMW certified repair shop! My Lord son, theres only 1 in Michigan and that would be the only place i would go.
I beat the guy who recommended that body shop was getting some kinda kick back, ive never heard of a BMW dealer not insisting on the customer using a BMW Cert. shop.
