Can anyone tell me what the BMW code is for the E46 CSL wheels? (style...) like on the concept.

The wheels on the concept seemed to be gunmetal or something. Alot of the CSL-style wheels I see on people's E46 M3s are straight aluminum finish or the like.

I doubt that the finish on the concept can be had on an OEM part. Has anyone seen that finish on a production car?

Style 163 are the "CSL style" rims (225 front - 255 rear) found on the competition package (what's the name for that in the US? ZSP?). The original CSL rims are - like lucid said - style 127. (235 front - 265 rear)

But I think both don't have the finish the CSL rims on the E92 M3 concept had...

That's the M3 CS rim (M3 "Competition" in US). Same look as the CSL but weighs more. On the positive side, it also costs probably a third of the price of the CSL rim too. Plus, you can actually get your hands on them.

I am actually considering a set for my E46, but I want to know before I buy if the offset will be "correct" (or at least look right) on the E92 as well.

These wheels are about 5lbs lighter.

Guys, the ZCP wheels and the CSL wheels are both Style 163. Furthermore, the both rear ZCP and CSL wheels are exactly the same -down to the P/N- although it seems that there was a change in part number for the CSL's rears once the ZCP package came out to line up all the rears as the same on both. Only the front wheels are different (0.5" extra width on the CSL's), perhaps to keep the exclusivity of the CSL parts but most probably to keep using the same front specs of the standard M3 with 19" wheels and tires (225/40 vs 235/35 fronts in the CSL).

Only the ZCP are advertised as forged, however they are actually spun cast as the CSL, a process that is cheaper than forging but with very similar results (strong wheels while light weight). Therefore, the rears wheels weight the same and the fronts are actualy lighter -not by much- in the ZCP. These was extensively discussed two years ago in the M3Forums.

The only way to get this gunmetal/Hyperblack finish on these wheels style is to get replicas; they were never offered as OEM in the M3. These replicas are ready available from the wheel sponsors of this forum...

Actually, the CSL wheels were the cheapest among all three E46 wheel styles, even the 18"s. That people got crazy paying up to $5000 a set that's another matter...

AFAIK there are two different wheels:

The original CSL wheels are called style 127:
235 front width (35), wheel offset 44 - 265 rear width (30) - wheel offset 27

The ZCP wheels are slightly different, called style 163:
225 front width (40), wheel offset 47 - 255 rear width (35) - wheel offset 27

Maybe almost the same wheel, but different BMW style codes...

As stated before, it seems that BMW changed some descriptions, P/N and nomenclature for the CSL wheels once the ZCP was offered. I do not know the factual reasons for those changes, I only know that now both are Style 163, both rear wheels are exactly the same, and most of the weight savings vs. the standard M3 forged 19" wheels were in the tires (almost racing tires) and less in the wheels.

You're right, I'm sorry. Don't know why it's that way. The original CSL rims used to be Style 127 (at least in Germany). As you said, they must have changed that...

Okay well that was an interesting history lesson, cool.

Anyway, anyone know yet if these wheels will fit properly on the E92? I don't just mean bolt up, but actually provide the right offset so the fronts don't stick out more than the rears or vice-versa.

Basically, anyone know what the offsets are on the stock E92 19" rims? (Style 220M, BTW, for those keeping track)

Where is the cheapest place to get CSL 163s? I can get the 18s on ebay for under 1k. I've seen the 19's for around 1-1.2k.

That could mean that the current Style 163's will look really "tucked in" into those front wide fenders (ET47 vs ET29) and much less so into the rear's (ET27 vs ET23).

In other words, wait until some 163's replicas with the right offset start showing up for the E92 M3... they surely will.

Thank you for the link. And I agree, the fronts are all wrong. That is what I was affraid of. I was hoping to buy some for my current car and then use them on an E92 later. No such luck. On the plus side, I am glad they changed the offset on the front because on the current E46 its noticeably less concave and does not look as good as it could.

And yes, before someone says it, I know I could use spacers, but I want the concave look, and plus I have heard horror stories of people breaking studs with spacers (we are talking about ~20mm spacers - not insignificant).

Just get 4 ZCP's rears for the E92 M3... the fronts are going to be within ET 2mm (although it will be an inch wider) of the OEM's and the rears within ET 4mm.

Visualizing this combo in the E92 M3, I think that is going to look nasty as hell... as in great. Deep concave look front and back, and if you really want to be flush with the fenders, installing 5 mm spacers F/R also will finish the look...

I have seen E60's with the ZCP's rear wheels front and back and they do look great. I think that the Carbon Roadster (the $100,000 M Z4 with carbon fiber body) is equipped with the same combo also...

Yes, MSRP/retail... because CSL parts are restricted retail prices are impossible to obtain.
