Confirmed: BMW Ring-Taxi Lives On... as an M3!

Rumors abound yesterday about the BMW Ring-Taxi possibly not returning in 2011. However, reports of its death has been greatly exaggerated. The Ring-Taxi is not going away, but changing forms.

We were able to reach out and receive official word from BMW M on the matter. The official situation is:

"The BMW Ring-Taxi will continue in 2011 and use the BMW M3 this year. It will be driven by the instructors from the BMW Driving Experience program - much like it used to be in past years."

In other words, the only thing that changes is that the E60 M5 has been replaced by the E90 M3, and the chances of Sabine Schmitz driving the Ring-Taxi are none this year, compared to slim in past years.

Visit BMW's Ring-Taxi web site and leave your email address if you want to get notified once tickets for the 2011 Ring-Taxi become available.

Good to hear, south. I strongly suspect that they will go back to the M5 next year or later this year once the production F10 M5 arrives.

which is understandable. The M5 kind of looks old since the new 5series is out. M3 will be a better marketing.

Can you give a pic of a e90 M3 instead of the e92 coupe. Camonnnn, the sedan ain't that polarizing to not be included in the topic.

BTw, this good news. The e90 M3 will make a great Ring taxi.

Good news - great program and very cool experience. 4 adults being flung around the ring in the e60 M5 made the car feel small - I'll wager the e90 M3 will further exacerbate the perception of a tight squeeze.

Seriously, nothing against the ///M5 or ///M3, but I would much rather experience the ring in a 911 GT3, RS or not.....
