E90 Borla catless x-pipe on stock exhaust installed
Well i installed a Borla catless X-pipe with 4 resonators that i got from HPautowerks.
Wanted to share it with you guys. Will add pictures tomorrow The X-pipe is well made and fits pretty good. Except for some slight rubing when under hard accelaration/ spinning the tires, on the driver side pipe. I will have to get back under there to do some adjustmens. but the one i bought was a pre-preduction piece i think. All in all im happy with it, just supprised how much the car smell like a skidoo/ 2 stroke w/o the cats. I've had no cat on a 944T and a Mustang SVT cobra, but wow this one takes it on the stinky side. Suprissed i dont recal seing that much talk about fumes from catless guys on here complaning about it. I cant drive with the windows down, or the smell come right in even at highway speeds. And of corse got a cel light after the second start up. Current set up; AFE filter, Borla x-pipe catless x-pipe with 4 resonators and stock exhaust. here some vids i was able to put together quickly. Quality of the video aint much, but it give you an idea of the sound. Inside it very very quiet. but outside you can hear it good. The sound seems somewhat special. not sure about it yet. to the OP about the Smell honestly using the stock muffler without cats in my experience seemed to make the smell more noticeable and after I got the Gintani Rear section the smell was present but not as much i could only smell it if the windows were all down and I was sitting at a light for a while.

Do these catless installs actually lead to unspent fuel igniting out of the tailpipe, or does that take a full straight pipe installation? The redneck genes in me are curious.

No i don't have a tune, stock ecu
i don't think you will get unspent full out of a catless set up. The factory tune will not get the car rich enough to get that. Well from my experience anyways. |

I have the Borla x-pipe on my supercharged E92 and generally concur with the OP regarding smell. I find it quite bad, but not to the point where I cannot drive with windows down (the smell is quite a bit worse on cold startup, but gets better when up to temperature).
I have the stock catback and find the system very loud, however, that may be due to the supercharger. I did not have the Borla x-pipe before I put on the blower. For the money, I think it is a great product. Looks essentially like the Dinan x-pipe but at half the price. My $0.02. |

BTW, i found why my setup was so smelly.
The driver side header connection point with the x-pipe was not perfect. My donut gasket isn't sealing it well enough. I resolved that issue now. |

It doesn't look like your check engine light is on? Correct me if I'm wrong here.

Dude, why not just replace your primary-cats with some race pipes and keep your stock x-pipe with the 4 resonators
i doubt the weight savings will shave a second on a 1/4 mile when you got a speaker system and electric/heated seats my $0.02 |

Anytime you remove all the cats from a car your going to get a smell, but what made me put cats back on my car was the brown stain and unburnt fuel I was getting on the back of my white car. I removed the front 2 resonators from the Borla X-pipe and installed 2 stainless steel HFCs (200 cell) in their place. Which resolved my problem and did not seem to affect my times on the PBOX. This sounds amazing. The borla x pipe has 4 resonators and deletes the 2 cats on the stock x pipe, and is a direct bolt-on? This sounds better than most mufflers that are the double the price, and you get the power gains.

The Borla has 4 resonators and deletes all 4 cats on the OEM x-pipe. It is a full bolt on (i.e. no cutting or welding).
