Sanity when the M3 is at the dealership for warranty work

Just how do you guys do this? I'm really suffering from a bad case of separation anxiety. My car has been at the dealership since Saturday to get the comfort access door handle replaced, as well as erratic idle looked into.

I'm trying my best not to nag my SA with status updates calls on what's going on with my vehicle. He said a module would need to be ordered for my car on Monday.

I digress, let me take a deep breath and try to enjoy this 428i Gran Turismo loaner I have been driving.

Oh how I miss the sound of that S65 motor... Just the little things that make me appreciate my car so much more.

FYI- This is the longest we have been apart so far.

My M3 was purchased new from a dealer like everyone else, however has never returned.

Has been to MRF Engineering for all maintenance and mods. Fortunately nothing has gone wrong to require a warranty claim (which by the way I would just pay to have MRF fix it). Malek has taken care of this car as if it was his own. There is great comfort in that.

I wish everyone could have an MRF Engineering close by.

Funny, my wife has asked me the same question in regards to my attachment to the M3

Don't judge me for being addicted to this fine piece of automotive machinery. lol.

No judgement, just think if your separation anxiety is real you should get it checked out, lol.

I usually take the loaner and hit the mall up or shop for my business when my M is at the dealer (not gonna happen anymore since I'm out of warranty and I can do my own stuff).

On a side note, the car has been at the dealer since Sat??? I had the same issue, waited while the new handle was installed, took around an hour. Of course the dealer had to order the part then have it painted to match the car but that was all done before I brought the car in...

usually if my fix requires days of waiting for parts, I tell my SA that I want to drive my car home and they should call me when ready to install.

If your car is going through a longer diagnostics, then my only thought is to take in on a Monday and there's a good chance any prolonged diagnostic and fix can be done throughout the week, instead of the car sitting idle on a weekend.

BTW, techs at my dealership do not work on weekends, I think only tech assistants who do basic oil change and tire rotations work on weekends.

you and me both....

I took my car in for the front mid-range speaker (EPS) to be replaced. They replaced it with a "non-EPS" regular hifi speaker. Mind you the mid range speaker for the regular hifi or base system has a black diagphram/cone, and not the beige(ish) color of the EPS. Open the door and voila nice new off color addition to my interior. SA actually tried to tell me this is the "new" model, as the original speaker series has been discontinued (according to the shop parts Assoc.)...Really, lets take a walk to parts so that they can look up the part. Low and behold ...of course its still in production You would think the tech would notice right, or did he not think the client would notice mis-match speakers in a red interior?

I didn't berate the SA as she always tries her best, but it's obvious that there are gaps in accountability at times..

Yes, I left the car, and yes I was apprehensive even before that mishap. 13 BMW(s) in you learn things along the way, like service can be a luck of the draw. I typically try to request the senior techs only. This was a relatively simple job, so it was likely assigned to a junior tech.

BTW: I too need to have the passenger side comfort access sensor replaced...

I insured the handle was ordered ahead of time and painted prior to me bringing my car in. The problem is my SA claims a module needs to be replaced and they have to order it.

At this point I'm going to call my SA tomorrow and if they are still waiting for parts, I'm going to request to pick it up until whatever parts they need arrives. I spent my cash to be in my M3, not for it to be sitting waiting for parts at the dealer, especially parts that don't effect its ability to drive.

I feel your wish to get the car back, but you'll get through a few days mate. Me? Just over 10 weeks (...!) before I got it back. All sorted but yes there was some pretty strong feelings going about missing.

I just had my car at the dealer for almost a week to repair a leaking DCT and replace the battery. They gave me a 335i as a loaner. I was actually excited to drive it, as so many have fawned over the 335i for so long, I thought it would be "very close" to the M3.

That car was not even close to being an M3. What a sloppy slow car it felt like. I was so happy to have the M3 back. Completely different cars.

I love driving loaners while my car is in for service. (Well unless it's a base 328i with no options). Last time I had a x3 which came in so handy for the snow.

Today I'm in a i3 and starting to really really love this thing. I wouldn't trade my m3 for it but if this is a taste of the future then we have a lot to look forward to. I can only imagine how nice the i8 drives.

The only medication for my anxiety is hearing that symphony that is the s65 motor as I lean into the throttle. can't wait to get her back.

Last time I had my car in they gave my a Civic Sedan because all the BMW loaners were out. But when I've had 335i's as loaners still never do the trick because they don't even compare to the M.

How did you guys manage to get a 335i? I have only gotten 328 xdrives. One time I did get a 535i. That car felt like a boat. In any event I should be thankful I'm in a a bmw loaner.

What are the driving characteristics of the i3 that you find so appealing?

Flying Ace nailed it. Don't let your car sit while they order parts, get that done before hand.

Now that its gone try booze and porn to pass the time.

I would imagine very simiar to the M3.

The M3 has very similar characteristics to a i8/i3. My M3 also drives short distances and the battery requires to be plugged in every few days to keep a charge. And when I hammer the throttle, the gasoline engine kicks in and it gets poor gas mileage.

Very similar to an i8 or Chevy Volt, I didn't get any government tax credit and am scoffed at when I park in the low emissions parking spots
