M Button off HP delivery
Hi All....excited to take delivery of 2013 M3 in two weeks...Question may be old, but I would be new to M3's M system...just wanted to know, when driving without M button, does the engine produce less HP like the old M5? instead 414HP, will it be running at 300+ HP.....
And also could you give me a link to a thread which explains "Do and Don'ts" for new M3 ...Thanks in advance... |

Omfgbbqwtf, it's 2013, six years have passed since the car's release and we're still clarifying this? Op, just turn in your keys back to the dealer

Oh boy, you are going to get flammed pretty badly for that question.
The M button is simply a "Memory" button. It is like a shortcut to your favorite settings. I have a stripper 6MT with no I-Drive, so I set mine to Power ON, EDC Normal, MDM Mode. If you have i-Drive with DCT you'll have considerably more options. The E9X M3 doesn't shut off cylinders like previous gen M5/6 did. Since you ordered your car, you should be able to login to BMWusa.com. The manual for your car is in .pdf form on the site. I would suggest reading it cover to cover. It will get you even more excited. |

^ Are you sure the previous M5/6 achieved that horsepower reduction with cylinder deactivation? I thought it was things like less aggressive timing, lift, and fuel maps. Cylinder deactivation is relatively new overall and extremely new in performance cars to my knowledge. Do you have a source for that?
OP, congrats on the order. But before you post threads here, read the Owner's Manual and the M3 Supplement, both available online as PDFs. It will help you pass the time until delivery, and that way when you get the car you'll already know about lots of cool features that even many existing owners don't know about since they never bothered to read the manual. Then do a little searching on the forums first, since this topic has probably come up 6 times in as many months.

New people coming to a site brings in more ad revenue, not sure where you guys get off always screaming search. Where is the community feel and support? If you keep barking people off, people won't want to come back and the community/site doesn't grow. If you knew the answer you could have easily helped out a new M3 owner save some time searching throw hundreds of crap threads to find the right one.
Nowadays all you find a useless post telling people to search, making it even harder to find your answer. Congrats on the purchase OP, I wondered the same but figured it wasn't as big a diff as the M5, mainly just more responsive. |

That's actually not a bad point. Quite often recently I would be searching the web for a topic (car related or otherwise), only to find someone asking the same question and a bunch of irate neckbeards with a search emoticon.

Won't usually happen if you preface your question with an, "I searched but found nothing" statement.

I feel like people on here are SO quick to reply in an unkind manner if it is a topic that may have been brought up multiple times before. Like seriously, at least be a little sympathetic, the dude doesn't even have 20 posts. Its one thing if he had hundreds of posts and he had the M3 for some months now, but he hasn't even taken delivery. If you are taking the time out of your day to write a few sentences on how to use the search button, might as well give him the answer, then maybe explain the search button afterwards. Geez. |
