US spec (sucks)
Why oh why do we in the US have to deal with BS stuff on the cars imported here. Just on the M3, only the US cars have reflectors on the bumpers, the seat bottoms are changed, launch control has historically been crippled. Its not only on BMW's its on almost every high performance import but why? why do we have to deal with changes made to our cars?

Seat bottoms - Likely BMWUSAs judgement that our bottoms are too fat. Launch control - Name another country that gets 4 years free warranty AND maintenance? Clutches, drivelines, diffs, etc. are part of this. I'm not complaining. We actually have the best prices and deal in the world. All a matter of perspective.

US Pricing Policy
Partially taxes. I'll give you 19% VAT (loose equivalent of sales tax, let's say), but pretax price of 71500 EURO with options is around at least 105,000 USD (using a conservative exchange rate). Add 19%, and 4500USD for environment tax (gas guzzler, let's say)
I can only say I took delivery early November. For that price difference I'll take a reflector on each door as well. And it's not a viable option to import them from the US. Some people do it for Infinitis and other NA-only cars. |

I agree on the reason for the reflectors but I think the explanation for the seats may be the same. I know that in the recent past certain limited edtion models of high-end European sports cars have had to have their seats replaced because they do not meet US occupant protection crash standards (don't ask me why but Road and Track has reported this). As for the lack of launch control, you should blame your lawyers and their prediliection for suing anyone with deep pockets for huge sums of money. If some idiot kills someone in the US while using launch control it is BMW's fault and not the idiot's. By the way Canada gets the reflectors and the no-charge maintenance too. At least on the basic 3 series we do. The M3 isn't up on the configurator yet. |

for the moment. the second most expensive mistake of my life time. the first being my ex-girlfriend. Both were hot and would give ya a woodie (both would even polish it for you) but they both broke down left and right, they both drink too much and make too much noise.
