F10. Not because I need the light to shift, but to maintain the OEM appearance of the interior.

I have the F10 and love it. I certainly don't need the light to tell me where gears are, but it looks better.

Installed the ZHP shift knob. A definite improvement in feel over the stock one. Only took about 10 minutes to complete the install. I don't miss the illumination, since my hand covers the top of the knob when driving.

However, one gripe I have of the ZHP knob change is my hand hits the console base when shifting to 1,3 or 5 since it sits lower overall, so I have to keep my hand higher up on the knob when shifting. Not a biggie but still a flaw of the conversion.

interesting. I don't have that problem at all.

either you bend your wrist too much or you have banana hands.

Had a ZHP knob on my old E39 M5 and just installed the F10 knob on my E90 last weekend. They are effectively the same except for the lighting and boot, obviously. The mob itself helps the shift throw and makes shifts feel substantially more solid and positive.

I chose the M5 knob because of the lighting - I just think it looks nice and don't like taking features away that were there before. I found the install to be easier than expected and didn't use any glue - took me an hour start to finish.

BTW, I have a F30 M Performance knob with OE alcantara boot for sale if you want to go this route. Same assembly/modification steps as you would take to do the F10 knob.

You can also use an F80 M3/M4 knob as well. Same concept as F10 M5.

Is F80 weighted? And does anyone know the weight offhand?

I must be the only person in the world that struggled with getting the F10 M5 boot onto the stock boot ring. I tried for hours, and it still never "clicked" into place like it should.

Just installed a F10 M5 shift knob with a LeatherZ black leather +tri-stitching shift boot. Looks fantastic and feels great too compared to the light gooseneck stock shift knob.

Search "F10 Shift Knob" on these forums. There's loads of threads covering the modification including part numbers and instructions.

Hey folks I just purchased a e90 M3 and I really love the f10 knob zhp but I really don’t want to do the alterations on the shift boot. Is there anyone that does the work and I can pay them? Like a company.. or individual? I would love to replace my current shift knob with the zhp and I wanted to keep the Original look.

You don’t have to replace the boot or change the look to go ZHP. You can cut the leather boot off the old shifter knob and re-use it below the zhp: pulling the boot inside out and upside down, slide the narrow opening over the shifter bar and tighten a zip tie down over the leather. Then as you move the base of the boot down to the console the boot becomes outside out and then you install the knob. The leather boot slides up to the knob and the look is oem. I did this with zhp and later with the Turner weighted knob which I prefer.

So I ended up getting the f10 knob and just had to shorten the leather boot on it to fit the e90 shift knob bracket
