Transmission Range N
Anyone have any idea what this could mean when it displays on your idrive? I got this last year, but I brought it to the dealer and they said it was a false alarm. They couldn't find an issue, they did update my software so the code was cleared and off I went. I put about 10K miles since than and randomly 3 days ago I got this message. The car never shifted funny, went to neutral or has done anything abnormal with this error message. I have an appointment with the dealer again, but just trying to see what it could be.

Mine started doing the same thing today like 3 days out of warranty. I found this thread which points to a software update and replacement of the shifter http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=351662 I haven't found anything else on the topic yet though.

That's a pretty generic error message. You'll need to pull the exact trouble code to see what's really going on.

Yea guys the solution was get a whole new shifter assembly and getting that installed and coded for my car. Car works flawless now and now I'm just awaiting my GTS DCT SW upgrade to arrive from Evolve and I should be good to go. Sorry for not updating the thread guys.

I had the same issue. I have a non GPS car, so my warning symbol is a bit different. I have a picture of it in another thread. My solution was also to replace the gear selector switch (another name for the shifter assembly). Not a bad job, did it myself in about an hour, and you can find the parts substantially cheaper used on ebay or new on other dealership websites.

Seriously dude... I've seen your many other posts regarding DCT topic's. Are you butthurt that your purchased the "slower" M3?! The DCT trans has proven to be very reliable, and many members are already over 100k miles and reported zero issues. Some of those include track abused and many daily drivers. The DCT is way different from the issues surrounding the SMG.
OP a simple software update should help correct the issue. Are you still on 2008 software? A local had the same issue when he shut off his car before engaging neutral to "P". Good luck!
