One huge advantage of the CF roof is increased headroom. This is especially important if you are tall and track your car, and therefore need extra room for your helmet.

Get a Sedan, then you don't need to feel shame for getting a moonroof!

Moonroof is good for me because in Texas i can run around with it open almost 7 months out of the year Plus I like the tilt option it adds its own sportiness that people are talking about with looks. Performance, I think if you want carbon fiber weight savings, maybe take it out of the trunk, hood, wheels. Can't deny a little sun is a little more fun.

Sweet Jesus! Why would you ever order a moonroof? Even if the M3 came with a regular roof, I still wouldn't order the moonroof. We are talking about extra weight at the highest point of the car which raises the car's center of gravity. I can understand why someone might opt for an E93, but I could never understand the appeal of a moonroof.

This thread is funny..
it's like asking "black or white?".. IT'S TOTALLY PERSONAL TASTE!!! ...and then having 3 pages of some seriously anal retentive people arguing that black is better than white lol |

Yawn...
there were so many threads on this, when I wanted different opinions I used the search buttons and went through them all.
when I saw there were no concrete pictures of my color preference, then I made the thread, making sure there was no sunroof vs. cf roof debate (because of how many threads already exist). REGARDLESS, I have another thought: You obviously have an interest in the sunroof or this wouldn't even be a question. Do you want the CF roof for looks, or function?? If looks, then do what I am probably going to do -- have the roof painted glossy black; I still retain the sunroof and get the contrasting look of the black top. If you prefer the CF roof for function, then there you go--you have your preference, run with it Another poster made a good point about needing the extra head space because you're tall or need a helmet, or prefer the lower center of gravity because you track the car and feel it gives you that added stability. These are all great reasons, but like all realists here, its a personal preference. I read through 8000 (it seemed like) reasons to get the CF roof, and I ordered a sunroof because IMO it can't be beat!!!

Have a vert on order so it's a moot point for me, but personally if I got a coupe it would have a sun roof. Yes, the CF looks cool in some cases but I doubt it matters much to 99% of the drivers in terms of performance. As my only car, it's just too tempting to have sunlight and fresh air from my roof when the weather permits.
What they should have done is make a CF vert top, now THAT would have been some weight savings. |

All the moonroofs on my other cars has done is let sunlight in between my eyes and my sunglasses, and sunburn my head/ears. I had my S4 for seven years and I opened the stupid thing twice. The CF roof makes me happy. It doesn't leak, creak or squeek, and I like the fact that it makes carbon freaks envious!

I hope you're kidding. a 10cm carbon fiber part for motorcycles costs at least a few hundred bucks. I can't imagine the whole carbon fiber roof being less than 1500$. Obviously not cheap to repair a ding.

I like an open roof, but I didn't want an extra 400lb and to spend extra money on an E93 (much as I love it) so I got a moonroof.

My main point was for rock chips. Rock chips are probably more common than huge dings, and there is touchup paint for most/all the colors the M3 comes in from the factory. |

I miss the moonroof all the time, but all I have to do is look at my car and I feel better again.

CF is played out. Honestly, even if the moonroof wasn't an option i would have painted the roof to match the body color so i wouldn't look like a tool with a cf roof. But the vent configuration on the moonroof is almost essential in FL for about 8 months out of the year. It's really an ingenious design because it can pour down buckets with the moonroof in the vent position and no water gets in.
