Got M3 Break-in Service Today --- w/ Z8 Cherry on Top
Took delivery of my new baby, a 2012 6MT E92 M3 in Space Grey, about 10 days ago. I've driven the hell out of it since then all across Europe in an attempt to quickly reach 2000kms/1200miles.
Today I finally had the break-in service conducted which of course allowed me to REALLY start experiencing that glorious V8 to the fullest. Before today, i hadn't set any of the car's damper/servo/throttle settings higher than the default factory settings, since I wanted to take it easy through the break-in. I have to say, this car really comes alive at 6-7k RPM with EDC, Power and Servotronic set to max. I think I'll just keep it set to "eleven" all the time, haha. Needless to say, my already huge grin is much wider now. The cherry from today was having the honour to see one of bmw's rarest and most outrageous vehicles of all time, the BMW Z8, parked in the lot waiting to have its own service done. I just wanted to share this experience with all of you. I remember when the Z8 came out, I thought it was epic. Hope you enjoy. |

Congrats! A few comments on Power and EDC though. I've found that on non-Competition Pkg cars, EDC on Normal can actually result in better handling AND a nicer ride compared to Sport. The reason is that Normal and Comfort are adaptive settings, whereas Sport is fixed at a particular firmness. I'm making the exact numbers up, but the example will illustrate my point. Let's say Sport fixes the damper firmness at 80%. Normal has a range of let's say 40%-100%, so Normal can actually be more comfortable under normal circumstances but can become FIRMER than Sport when conditions warrant. On Competition Pkg models, Sport is also adaptive across a firmer range.
As for Power, I personally use Sport only on the street because I like the twitchy throttle and easier rev-matching in that setting. I found Sport Plus a bit much, plus it actually made rev-matching harder. However, on the track after starting with Sport I've switched to using Normal because it makes precision throttle control FAR easier, which helps in the corners. Food for thought if you ever go to the track. Congrats on reaching break-in and enjoy!

I thought comfort was fixed, and normal/sport are dynamic, or is that only on the comp package cars?
Anyways nice Z8! I saw a gorgeous silver one WITH A HARDTOP at our local Coffee and Cars last weekend

I think seeing it now, years later, it's admittedly a bit "average looking" by today's design standards ... but, you can't deny how unique that car was when it first debuted back in the late 90s. |

We had a customer park his on the sales floor when I worked at the BMW dealer, what an amazing car to be around. I have only ever seen two on the roads here in Utah, but after working for the dealer for seven years saw many of them coming in for their annual oil service. I really like the way they look, sound, feel... I think BMW did a great job.
