A bit more info on it:
http://www.tuaw.com/2012/09/13/light...-ipod-out-doe/ And you may want to order an extra one of these from Apple, now: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD...g-to-usb-cable .

Guys, can I just confirm. I have a December 2011 335i convertible fully loaded with factory fitted combox, 6FL, telematics, media snapin cradle etc.
Are you saying that if I plug an iPhone 5 into a lightning 30 pin adaptor cable and the other end into the media cradle I will still get the full functionality that I get with my iPhone 4s? Thanks |

Yes I have cover art. I also get cover art if I plug my 4s in to the USB port. Would that work with the iPhone 5

Media Cradle = Video Quote:
Again... there is no use in using the iPhone 4S snap-in adapter/Media Cradle with the iPhone 5. The iPhone 5 does not fit into it, the Lighting adapter is useless with it. Use the Lighting USB cable included with the iPhone 5 in the OEM USB port and you will be fine until the proper Media Cradle is available. |

To be honest the media cradle is pretty useless and only good for video playback and the iPod Gui that you get through the plug-in option through IDrive.
All that I am really interested in is making sure that I still have cover art, Facebook and twitter and ensuring that I can control playback and music selection through the idrive system. What I was trying to work out is if I plug the lightning usb cable into the USB port and into an iPhone 5 will still give me that functionality. It looks as if you are saying yes |

Apple stated that the Lightning USB cable will perform all the main features that the old 30-pin USB cable currently performs. |

I ordered mine this morning. I'll post up my results when I get the phone in but it said 2 week shipping. I'm sure someone else will get it sooner

This isn't a huge loss. I never used the ipod out, so long as everything else works, it's ok. The biggest annoyance is not being able to use the media cradle anymore for charging and a quick way of plugging things in. As far as I understand, you just need the cable that comes with the iPhone 5 (or buy another cable) and everything else should work ok. That'll be a working stop-gap measure until BMW releases an updated cable. I pre-ordered mine and should be getting it on launch day, will play with it more then probably.

I just ordered my M3 and the iphone 5 .
According to that video they specifically show a car using the lightning to 30-pin. which makes me believe that it will work for songs on your iphone as well as youtube/pandora feeds like it does with the 4's |

It's going to suck if it doesn't support office...I was actually anticipating IOS 6 just for reading text. Crossing my fingers that all will be good
Edit: Just read the other post...this feature can be had via bluetooth

Okidoki, I have been experimenting the last hour with iOS 6 on an iPhone 5.
Initially, it synced in bluetooth okay, but then wouldn't connect again. I restarted the phone, un-paired, and re-did the pairing. And it went fine after that. There's another thread elsewhere that we've been running about the set-up for the Messages features (text-message only, usually). It really gets going at post #82, so you can save time by skipping to that and carrying on. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...=708494&page=4 As for using the iPhone 5 Lighting cable-to-USB (center-armrest of BMW): I just used the the cable that came in the box with the iPhone 5, and it does everything that the iPhone 4s did. Calendar, Facebook, News feeds. It did not (as expected) do a software-based "Plug-In" connection [the snap-in Media Adapter.] .

Yeah you guys were right as I plugged my iPhone 5 into my USB port and got everything except the iPod out functionality which is fine for me. I've also managed to get text messaging and email working and it works really well.
Is there a voice command to allow me to read texts or do I have to manually access text messages through Idrive |
