I am coded.......X.x.............

I've never heard of this before

Also, I paid for my registration for 2012 a couple weeks ago and already got my updated registration in the mail with the sticker etc...

Can I just ignore this? lol....

I need to get an oil change in a month, and possibly free stock brake pads...

You can program this yourself as a reminder, not a BMW thing at all
click on it and you can change the date

I believe this is setup as a reminder for states that have an annual inspection requirement (usually get a window sticker good for one year). When I took delivery of my '09 my brother-in-law (BMW tech) set the inspection year to something like 2035 so that I won't get this yearly reminder because my state doesn't have an annual vehicle inspection. I'm pretty sure this is what you are seeing because it's almost been one year since you took delivery of the car - does your state have an annual vehicle inspection (not emssions related)?

This, I've gotten this message yearly since I bought the car.

You can re set it in the i drive menu so that it doesn't come on

+1 Was the same way on my '08 550, a reminder setting. Simply update/change the date to remind yourself next year...

That's pretty sad when a dealer doesn't undersand things, especially something as simple as this but that seems to be the norm these days. I would hope they'd have figured it out if you did drop the car off and ask them to "fix" it for you

I got the same warning, pretty cool, it would be nice to have such reminders for licence and registration renewals too :P

I got mine yesterday too. What's odd is that I've had my '09 for over two and a half years, and yesterday was the first time that this reminder came up, so it's clearly not an annual warning. And as far as I know, California doesn't require annual inspections -- just smog checks 4 (or so) years after purchasing a new car.

Odd.

Perhaps whoever did the PDI on your car had adjusted the date so you'd get the reminder in ~three years instead of one? Also, not sure if the initial date is set at the factory or at the VPC or...?

The only way I know how to reset it is by using iDrive.

I received it yesterday also. But I was able to click on it and reset the date to whatever month/year I wanted.

Like someone else mentioned this is not a BMW item at all but rather a reminder you can set for yourself about your own needs or states needs.
