^ I'm curious as to how wanesso found the PS2s better, but I doubt the PS2s will stick around too long now that the PSS is available in so many sizes -- though it may be around longer than normal since it was OEM for so many cars. But still, a set of PS2 19s on Tire Rack is almost $500 more than PSSes, $1560 vs $1064 -- that's a 46% bump!! Even IF the PS2s are better than PSSes somehow, no way they're 46% better.
Fwiw, with respect to tire life, I've been using my PSSes on both road and track (6-8 track days per year) and my rear tires were down to the cords on the insides after around 10,000 miles, including 8 track days. My front tires wore their OUTSIDES down to the cords after about 7,500 miles which included 6 track days. The fronts otherwise had plenty of tread left, but they still had to be replaced due to the cording, which was part of the reason I picked up Vorshlag camber plates and am now running -2.3 camber. Too early to tell how much that will help with wear on the front outsides.

They don't grip as well on the corners---did two Watkins Glen training sessions with each type of tire and the PS2's had definitive grip.

I just went to from the PS2 to the PSS on the rear, both 265. The rears were at 4/32 with 9600 miles. The car definitely feels different. I swear I feel more body roll but that doesn't seem physically possible. The stability control also seems to kick in a little sooner in MDM, which surprised me.
Going to take a little getting used to. But so far after a little play on the back roads I'm not sure I'll go to PSS up front when it comes time to replace them. EDIT 7/30: According to Tire Rack the tires need a 500 mile break in. I've never noticed a very significant change over the first 500+ hundred miles before but after about 200 miles on these they are very different. On the way out to Tale of the Dragon they were squirmy. After that 200 mile drive and with a little warm up they were like glue on dry pavement. Then it rained on us and I didn't appreciate much if any loss in traction. I did dial it down a bit but at the speeds we were running the PS2's would have been slipping on both dry and wet. Traction control kicked in once with MDM the entire weekend. I'm sold. Last edited by 1fastdoc; 07-30-2013 at 11:57 AM.. Reason: update |
