Why didn't BMW include LED Angel Eyes on MY2011?

Any ideas?

Just makes absolutely zero sense to me why they didn't do it?

You know they look it over, sat down, had a few beers and discussed it - what the hell was going through their minds to NOT include LED Angel Eyes on the MY2011 M3 and include them on every other 3er?

The 2011 3er has a redesigned headlight, no? If that's the case..there's your explanation.

I'm not sure it's "re-designed" it just has LED angel eyes and an LED eyebrow

They redesigned the 2011 rear taillights for the M3, did they forget about the front of the car?

Why not stick to the times and include LED angel eyes?

Still makes ZERO sense

Well what I mean is, the 2011 3er's have a newly shaped headlight from what I can tell; resulting in a newly shaped bumper. Since the E9x m3 is still using the same front bumper, I can only imagine that's the reason they continue using the same headlights. As far as the rear tails go, isn't it the same as the new coupe tail, which just happens to be still the same shape as the current, hence the "upgrade". I could be totally wrong, but that seems to be how I see it.

M3's are made in relatively small numbers and have unique front bodies. It's likely that BMW didn't see the need (or a return on the investment) to change the M3's front end. They did the same thing when the E46 was face lifted in that the M3 front appearance didn't change. This topic has already been discussed at length. Here's and example thread: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=387880 .

Thanks for the clarification, I guess re-designing the front bumper was both unnecessary and costly. No reason to re-design it, it looks absolutely stunning.

Angel iBrights for me it is...

My guess is that the M Division guys could care less about angel eyes, cup holders, air conditioning, comfort access and other things that don't make the car faster. It's only when the other M guys (marketing, argh!) can convince management that they've got have new stuff or certain options to sell the cars that the real M Division guys will pay attention to integrating the non performance features into the cars as they would much rather be doing things like developing an improved suspension.

To KayKay and richardbb85, the only real leverage you have is to not buy the cars. If enough people take that action, perhaps BMW will get the message and add LED angel eyes or whatever it is the people that aren't buying the cars feel they should have. Complaining about missing features and buying the car anyway isn't likely to get the Germans' attention in any significant way.

Agree 100%...I personally love the old headlights, so I don't mind the halogen angels. I saw the new headlights and they would definitely make the M3 look less aggressive.

I agree. The new headlights on the 2011 regular 3 series coupes and convertibles have a similar bug eyed look almost as bad as the oversized headlights that come on the 1 series cars. I don't like that look at all.

Agreed, I'm not a fan of the new "eyebrow" 3er lights. The M3 headlights with some AiB's are the way to go. I even think the HID angel eye solution is overwhelming and is way too much light from all the pics I've seen. AiB's seem to be a perfect blend of white LED rings while remaining subtle.

Why did they redesign the headlights on E92 LCI if they did not do it for the E90 LCI?

I thought they kind of did with the internals going to LED on the E90's. If that's not true, then that's weird. Last generation, both coupes (besides M3) and sedans got LCI headlights.

Why not just include LED lights when the E9X was first launched?

Exactly. Look at the Z4 E89. It came just after the 7 Series F01. It is so expensive and it has no LED blinkers nor LED brake lights. It is just a shame. IMO all bulbs should be replaced by LED.

M's make up a small percentage of 3 series sales, so they do not dictate BMW's decisions. BMW wanted a fresh look for the E92's, so they redesigned the front end.
