Best Wash in L.A.these days???

I've heard a few talk about being at Melrose CW....I've done the Handy J thing, BH Car Wash on La Cienega and the place on Ventura with the Corvette parked on the pole.....Have had good experiences at all and crappy ones....
I'm sure this has been discussed......but.....

I like Red Carpet in Manhattan Beach and Checkered Flag in Irvine. Always ask for the hand wash at either place, though.

My number one choice is Suran's car wash on Ventura and Vineland. It is downstairs in the Ralphs/Rite Aid parking lot. These guys are awesome and do a better job on my wheels than even I do. Wash is only $12 and they only charge $45 for a clay block. No track and done all by hand but expect a wait if there are a good amount of cars ahead of you. Have seen a handfull of Ms here, if you spot the melbourne red e93 it is probably me.. Give them a try and if you don't like them feel free to pen a letter to the editor, any editor just pick one at random my top picks being Woman's Wear Daily or Cat Fancy.

Melrose Strip is my second choice. They were better a few years back but now the line is a bit daunting at times. Big plus is no track and an all hand job. My only reason for putting them second is they are average but not great on the wheels, outside surface is clean but you can still see a bunch of brake dust on the inside of the wheels. It is also a bit of a scene, you can show up anytime of the day and spot a tragic fashion victim getting out of a bentley gt.. And until I found Suran's they were my weekly go to wash for a good few years, now I only see them in a pinch.

Also for any of you OCers my all time favorite car wash owner/manager is on Chapman near the 55. He used to own Town and Country but a while back moved up the street to Orange Hand Wash, his name is Danny. Used to love his monthly flat rate deals, I think it was 150 or 180 and you could bring your car in as many times as you wanted. Not sure if he brought the same deal over to his new shop or not but worth checking out.

And FYI I would stay away from Ventura Hand wash, the one with the vette on the sign. Have had a few friends have mishaps with them, scratches mirrors etc. I think they took care of them all but I would rather not have something happen in the first place..

After C&C I took the M6 for its first ever car wash @ Melrose. I live too far to go there every week but they always do a good job when I manage to be in the area.

Up in Valencia there is a place that -could- be the most sick car wash/detailer ever, if they would just get steady ownership and market themselves as being upscale. It's this place called Galaxy Car Wash - they have a really, really nice building with a big parking lot, a couple of detailing bays, a big customer lounge. It's all really new and clean. But the place has changed ownership 2 or 3 times in the past year, they just can't get it together. If someone who was into cars bought it they could turn it into some kind of car hangout. Their parking lot is big enough for a small show of 50 or so cars. It would really catch on if they did it right.

I agree the place on Ventura with corvette is a joke, melrose used to be better but still is ok. I thing I will give a try to the one in the parking lot on Ventura and vineland

Thanks!! I'm new to cali. I tried checkered flag today and they did a pretty good job. They actually cleaned the individual slates on the grills. Though they did leave a spray windex bottle in the car, lol, guess I'll return it next weekend or so. Does anyone know of any other hand car wash places in socal, especially, closer to fullerton? Thanks.

I'm sure this has been discussed......but.....

The only good wash in LA is the one you do yourself. Any car wash, hand wash or not, will introduce some type of defect.

I've been to Majestic on 3rd and Fairfax ever since I got my first car, and always liked them... very professional & always get the job done right. Then I decided to start going to Melrose. I am very happy with Melrose, however if i detail my car, only Majestic.

I know I'm bumping a pretty old thread, but is there anyone person who does a mobile wash or runs a smaller operation in the hollywood/bev hills area that you would recommend. My little sis just leased a black SLK55 AMG (against my advice of course) and I live too far away to wash it for her. I'm afraid the paint will look like shit in no time. Already told her to avoid letting dealer wash it again and there is no chance she will be washing it (probably a good thing). Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hands down the best wash is at Lavaggio. After taking my car here for the first time 2 years ago I won't go anywhere else for a full wash. The prices are on the high side but really aren't that bad considering that every service comes with a free wash and concierge service to shuttle elsewhere if need be. The only down side is that it's a bit of a trek being out in Agoura Hills, but I just use that fact to get a nice canyon run done right before hand. The basic wash at this place is better than a detailing anywhere else I've been...they will make your car look better than new. I highly recommend this place and if you ever go ask for Lydia or Dustin and tell them that M3 Josh sent ya

I suggested them but she said it is just too far to go for regular washings. But thanks, maybe she can at least have them detail it once in a while after it gets swirl-washes elsewhere.

That's certainly a recommended way to go
