I can't be the only one who finds this indicator light annoying?

Maybe I'm the only one, but I like having no extra lights on at night. Is the little light that says the lights are on able to be coded off with BMWhat?? :

Thanks!

Agree that light is pretty stupid. BMW does some stupid crap. Why does their performance car need to have the damn "power" button pressed every time. Why can't it remember your last setting.

I love my old BMW's and just not sure about some of their new stuff. Fat pig cars is what everyone builds now.

My car allows me to set it to have the power setting engaged every time I start it up, w/o having to ever press the button or hit the M button. I think it's part of the key dependent settings, but can't remember for sure. 2008 e90. Tech package option maybe? Good luck.

Apparently having a light isn't enough. Too many times I see idiots driving without the light on in heavy rain or near sun set.

Or you can be like those ricers driving with only the angel eyes on at night if you really don't want the light on.

Through iDrive, you can save your settings to have the power on/off or power plus on/off whenever you start it

Read your owners manual Chet.

Too bad BMW can't make their owners read.

It's a safety feature to inform you that your headlights are active. I would personally keep it just for the peace of mind. I can't tell you how many imbeciles i've seen driving at night oblivious to the fact that they've left their headlights off. If you code it out when your setting switch is in auto mode, then that's a different story.

Don't mean to sound like a cunt but don't you want to know when / if your head lights are on?

I find this "feature" particularly useful... Especially when running the head lights in auto mode.

The only way probable, safe, and street legal solution would be to code your headlights so that the DRL mode is active with the low beams active/on, meaning that with your headlight switch in the "0" position, your headlamps/low beams are still active.

Instructions with BMWhat:
FRM: Daytime running lights 1/2
active
not active
BMWhat: Daytime running lights (DRL) is active/not active. The DRL is activated when the light switch is set to position '0' in the car. Please activate 'Daytime running lights 2/2' as well.

not active
BMWhat: Daytime running lights (DRL) is active/not active. The DRL is activated when the light switch is set to position '0' in the car. Please activate 'Daytime running lights 1/2' as well.

FRM: Daytime running lights - customization
Off
Low beams
High beams
Only additional lights (EU models)
Only additional lights (US models)
BMWhat: Customization of the daytime running lights (DRL). The DRL is activated when the light switch is set to position '0' in the car.

FRM: Daytime running lights - number plate lighting
active
not active
BMWhat: Use number plate lighting as daytime running lights. To activate this function, set 'Daytime running lights' to 'active'.

FRM: Daytime running lights - tail lights
active
not active
BMWhat: Use tail lights as daytime running lights. To activate this function, set 'Daytime running lights' to 'active'.

Pros: You get rid of that light on the dash
Cons: This would mean your headlights/low beams are permanently on every time your car is on (with headlight switch in "0" position)

I agree the light is annoying, and part of the reason is it is a color that clashes with all other information on the dash.

I live in a rainy climate and it drives me nuts that people do not put their lights on as required by law and safety.

It does remember...

The only time Iv pressed the power button is the first day I got the car, never again after that.

Personally I like the light. I leave mine in auto so its kind of pointless, but when the light conditions are questionable, it lets me know if they are on or not.

Thank you for the info

I guess many people don't find it as odd as I do. I always have my switch set to AUTO and am always aware when I need my headlights on/off.

I'll play around with the coding and see

This is one of my biggest pet peeves. I've seen too many near misses because some idiot didn't have their lights on.
