Power folding mirrors
I tried searching and didn't find what I was looking for so here it is...
I have a 2011 E90 M3. When I press the button to fold in/out the mirrors, they move at different speeds - One is slower than the other. I know it sounds stupid but it drives me nuts. I took it to BMW Manhattan to look at and they compared it to another M3 and they both do it. Is this normal? |

Yes it is normal. Happens on every mirror. The motors aren't different speed, it's just that the driver side has a further distance to fold up because its default position is winged out more to compensate for the assymetrical viewing angle as you sit in one side of the car, not the middle.

Will take a closer look on mine later today but I think they are slightly out of sync. Less that one opens faster but more like one starts a half a second later than the other...

How is OP able to simultaneously put one eye on each mirror to determine start of motion?
Seriously, extend-fold motion should be at same speed.

Both of my mirrors don't fold at the same speed. It's normal.

There was a post about this a couple of years ago, ever since I always look at the my mirrors folding at different speeds.
I don't know why...

the angles are not the same, therefore the folding time is not the same ...

How far off of simultaneous are we talking here? Mine aren't EXACTLY the same speed but it's not comically off either. The two windows don't roll up at EXACTLY the same speed either. I consider it normal mechanical variance. No two window/mirror motors produce the exact same power, just as no two engines do.

ive never noticed. dont get in the habit of timing them and you should be okay. plenty of other buttons to play with while they do their thing to distract you from the pain.
