A/C cuts off sometimes??

The car is a 2012 6spd coupe with 17k miles. Sometimes while driving normally on the interstate or city driving the a/c will cut off for a second and then come right back on. No codes or lights or anything. Anyone else have this happen to them?

It does it to me sometimes as well.

Have auto zone or somewhere check the refrigerant levels. It could be something as simple as a 30 dollar can of refrigerant (Assuming the car will accept it. I haven't looked into this deeply to know if the refrigerant type is the same as you can get in the pressurized cans).

A/C is supposed to cut off I think when you get heavy on the throttle. Because racercar

The evaporators are know to fail on the M3, I had mine replaced which requires full dash removal. Not a pretty repair.

Hopefully, it is not the the evaporator.

Do you have the circulation set on the first bar? If so that is the answer to your question.

I've had my refrigerant checked and topped off early last year after noticing the AC felt really weak. The tech couldn't find a leak or any source why this happened. Works fine now...hopefully it won't happen again!

Mine does this. I do have the Auto Recirc mode engaged as mentioned above, so that could indeed be it. Good call!

And the AC's cooling ability is also noticeably less potent when stopped and idling compared to moving.

No sir, we don't really use the circulation button.

This happened to me last summer when I was driving through New Mexico on a drive from Maryland to California. I filled up in East New Mexico and the highest Octane was 90 or some BS. Started the car up and the AC was non existent within a few miles. As soon as I was able to locate higher octane fuel to put in the tank the AC sprang back to life.

So... might want to try out a new fuel station.

As others have mentioned it happens on my car when the circulation is in auto mode... AC works just fine.

That might be coincidence..... There's no way the octane of your fuel affects the air conditioning system of your car - outside of blowing the motor and physically damaging the A/C system.

I had mine replaced as well and the dealer left it loose. I have been back at the dealership 7 times now for a horrible dash rattle they still cant fix.

Still have it, no plans to replace it anytime soon. Live uptown and teach at Tulane so mostly uptown...

I gotcha, I'm only uptown every now and then. Mostly metairie area or downtown. Maybe our paths will cross one day lol.

I know a couple other E9x M3 owners and it'd be fun to get as many as possible together for a meet. My fiancé and I are usually out at the lakefront on Sundays and we always go to Cars & Coffee too which is every other month at Chateau Café on Robert E Lee. Next one is Aug 3rd.
