Given that S6 decreases clutch slip times, the argument can be made that it's better on your transmission (it's certainly better on your clutches) than the slower modes. Does it wear out the drivetrain faster? Maybe, but doubtful. Does it wear out the tires faster? Absolutely.

Some of the above has to be true- however I am sure BMW built these cars to handle it. I agree that launch control can not be good for the drivetrain.
You have to love the tire chirping shifts though!!!

I agree. The only way the clutch will suffer more wear in S6 is during acceleration using launch control.

I believe some info in here is wrong. The faster and harder a transmission shifts, the less wear it puts on it. The longer its engaging, the more heat and "partial" friction, wearing down the material at a faster rate.

You are assuming clutch wear and transmission wear are synonymous. Faster shifts are easier on the clutch at the expense of the rest of the gearbox and vice versa. But at the end of the day none of us really have hard data backing up how much life you take from the trans by using S6 or how much life you take from the clutches by using S1.

Slamming into the next gear is easy on the clutch but stressful to the gears.

I see your point, but i have never seen an issue of gears being worn out in anything less than 1000 HP racing specific applications. I think we see/mean the same thing though. for a street vehicle, id be more sorried about the clutches on my car, since that will go earlier and more likely
