Production of MY 2011 can continue through the end of 2011. With the CAFE standards in the US changing for 2012 my bet is that BMW has set the end of the production cycle just prior to the onset of these more strict standards. In this fashion, for the 2012 model year, the only M models that will be in the corporate average are the x5m and x6m, and these cars utilize the newer twin turbo motors architecture.

You can have it right now... it is called the Assist Convenience Plan.
For $199 a year you can have local and destination weather forecasts, fuel prices and news displayed in your iDrive screen. By the way, another March 2011 change/improvement would be the enhanced Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI) for the iDrive, with weather included in the traffic conditions/delay alerts. |

Sweet, find that wire that tells the system it is in "stationary position" probably goes to the e-brake light on the dash for manual-transmission cars, ground it permanently and your passengers can watch movies while you drive...

That works only on aftermarket HU/Nav systems, not in our iDrive.

i have a 2008 that i'm retrofitting with a 2011 CIC. i'm planning on the combox retrofit (replacing the MULF + TCU) that Patryk offers. what's the difference with combox telematics retrofit? is it new hardware and coding issues?

There have now been three production changes to the M3s that have included different option packages and other notable updates to the car that have all been released within the 2011 model year. Specifically: March 2010 Production - aka MY11: Introduction of ZCP, introduction of E92 LCI. September 2010 Production - aka MY11.5: Introduction of ZP2, introduction of Combox, introduction of manual seats, introduction of Mineral White. March 2011 Production - aka MY11.??: Introduction of 6NR, introduction of US special edition model, introduction of E93 Individual Composition option. And these are just the consumer-facing changes, to speak nothing of manufacturing improvements, cost-saving updates, and every other under-the-hood change that differentiates one model year from the next. So what moniker do we give March 2011 production M3s to differentiate them from March '10 and September '10 production M3s, keeping in mind that they are all 2011 model year cars from BMW's perspective?

The Combox that you will be installing to replace the MULF and the TCU is the Combox Telematics. That's the only one offered in the USA so far.
