They should have taken active sound a bit further in the f8x and put megaphones on the outside to hide the diesel WOT and ricer farts

The AA exhaust on the previous page sounds alright at best. It's a big improvement in that it doesn't sound like shit, but still sounds like something that belongs on a G37S or something. So I agree with Alex on that one.
The old 5.0s sounded badass, but they didn't have the F1 howling character of the S65/S85. The S65 paired with a good exhaust is one of the best sounding cars out there. We even had a poster on here say his full (Dinan?) exhaust sounded better than his stock 458, which seems unbelievable to me, but it's honestly an accomplishment just to be mentioned in the same sentence. Unsurprisingly, the affect is reciprocated in the interior where BMW has piped in "some really quite authentic 6-cylinder sounds" according to this reviewer. But what does he know, he's just a journalist We better get used to this guys. In the future, exhaust systems might consist of purchasing a $3000.00 MP3 file from Akrapovič's iTunes page **Digital induction system sold separately

I would consider the worst sounding BMW to be...the E46M3. I don't see anyone bitching about that anymore. I think they all sound quite civic like.

I just think it has been pretty well established and accepted that it's terrible sounding (with the exception of the CSL) so there's no point in discussing it anymore.

Disagree. Prove I'm wrong? Can't. Subjective. Know what's not subjective? The F8x performs better in every single performance metric than the E9x. I prefer my E90 but I'm not such a fanboy that I let how it sounds blind me to the march of progress.

It's loud. Wouldn't necessarily say I love it. More like quantity over quality.

While the S54's exhaust sound (particularly stock) is nothing to rave about, the S54 had a very sweet induction/engine sound. People tend to put their attention on the exhaust noise but they often forget that for many, induction noise also played a significant role in the M-cars of past.

^ Agree with you there - Same goes for the E9x, especially the stock exhaust which is fairly muted. But the induction noise is drool worthy.
