climate control

Is there any way to set the climate control when it is off to let outside air flow inside the cabin? I can't for the life of find any info on this in the manual. For example on my dd, if I have the ac and fan off and vent set to recirculate, no outside air would enter the car. Air would flow in while driving if the vent was set to outside air (non recirculate) . So how the heck would I do this without turning on the climate control or fan?

I find the climate control in the M3 to be ridiculously complicated and redundant. And then you have the hot/cold switch on top of that which seems to override your temperature settings. What is even the point of that??

Maybe I'm missing the question mate, but the air certainly continue to come in even when you turn off the AC. Or what was the issue..?

Agree on the cold/warm switch on top, never figured out what the idea is here and how this works with the temp setting. Anyone?

Cheers

Basically whenever the climate control is off, absolutely no outside air will flow into the cabin. Is there a way or setting to make it so outside air will flow through the vents while climate control is off, while driving?

Still not following bro, so does the fan stop when you turn AC off..?

Maybe its possible to shut the whole thing down, and stop fan + inlet, but why would you want that man?

Cause usually when I'm driving around with the windows up, and the climate control unit off, it gets stuffy really fast. It's nice to just have fresh air venting into the car without having to roll down the windows, if that makes sense?

Hmm...still don't understand man. The only way I can shut down the fan is to turn "auto" off and then lower the fan to zero. Otherways you have your went there mate.

Good luck

BMW designed that to allow cool air to come in when the heat is on to avoid the driver from getting sleepy. Only on the face vents notice. One of my favorite features on BMWs. Has been like that for years!

This. Turning off the AC function and leaving the fan on at its lowest setting is the closest way to achieve what the OP wants.

OP, if you just want the vents open but everything entirely passive, I don't know if there's a way to do that. I don't know for certain that the vents are actively CLOSED when AC is off, but there doesn't seem to be a way to adjust that state without having the fans on at least to some degree.

This has been asked in many threads here, but basically it controls the temperature of the air exiting only the center vents. The intent to allow you to for example keep the cabin warm overall when it's cold outside but still have cold air blowing on your face to help keep you awake rather than getting sleepy from the hot air.

I often use this feature to blow slightly warmer air on my hands while keeping the overall temperature cool.

Interesting. I thought with everything off, the air comes in. You guys are saying it's the opposite? Going to have to test this out.

Ahhh thanks, that's exactly what I was asking and wondering. It's a feature I enjoy and use often on my old Honda while driving at night. Thanks!

OP, I believe like most other cars, you can have the fan off and still get air through your vents if you don't have the circulation button on/lit. Try that.

Here is a link I found to the E90 Technical Manual (used for technician training):
http://www.shrani.si/f/2z/Eu/2cbNKAh...te-control.pdf

See Page 24 to see how "technical" the fresh air system operates. Lots more interesting bits to enjoy also.
