Shift lights on 2010 M3 Cabriolet

Can anyone tell me how they are supposed to work? Do any of the 8 diode lights, yellow to red actually come on or only come on when the red engine light does?

They have not come on as the did in my 2004 M 3 and the Dealer states they only come on when you red line it Mdrive on of course.

Seems that that is an engine protection light NOT shift lights as I have previously known....is this true?

When do the shift lights come on and do the 8 diode lights actually come on during normal operation?

Yes "they only come on when you red line it Mdrive on"

They will come on with or without MDrive selected.

Mine come on well before redline. The orange ones build up, and then the red lights come on at redline.
