10KG weight savings is a little disappointing but thinking about it, they couldn't shave off much from an already light car (relative). Regardless, I'm impressed with how Porsche held on and kept it NA.
My big question is: what's the point of the broken sized wheels (21 rears, 20 fronts)? It must be beneficial somehow or else Porsche and Lotus wouldn't be doing this. (Corvette had broken sized wheels back then too. IDK about vettes now). |

New and old NSX has always had this "Broken wheel" as do some Ferrari as far as I know.
I think its called a double staggered

Why do people get this car? The Turbo is more powerful, faster, cheaper, more comfortable to ride in, more livable, and gets power earlier in the rev range...
I would get a Turbo instead if I were shopping in this range. |

GT3 is harsher yet more limited in production, much more aggressively styled, and would absolutely rape a Turbo on a circuit. |

I think rape is an understatement. IIRC, the 997 GT3 RS 4.0 did the Nordschleife in less than 2 minutes and the 997 911 Turbo was 10 or 11 seconds slower.

Plus one sounds awesome and the other sounds like a vacuum cleaner.
I followed (at increasingly larger distances) a 991 GT3 the other day being driven in anger, it sounded amazing. I assume the RS will be even better. |

Hell no, I'd rather have a 991 S than a turbo. If I wanted a comfortable GT car, I wouldn't buy a P-car. You are not the target audience for this car, it is a track toy(albeit a rather expensive one).

Not far off? 2.2 seconds on a sub 2 min lap is a LIFETIME. In other words, not even close at all. Half a second on a sub 2 min lap is a lot of time, let alone 2.2 seconds. My guess is the GT3 RS will be right around 1:58 at portimao. |

EDIT: Oh yea, you're the guy that hates revving his car above 3K rpms, so the GT3 must seem completely pointless to you. For the price, we should all be driving Teslas and pocketing the difference.

The RS will have more downforce for even better traction, wider body and wider tires again adding traction and I think the 500 hp rating will be more like 500 WHP and of course the extra tq will help, as well as revised shorter gear ratios. I also believe on Hockenheim the 997 GT3 RS 4.0 is quicker than the Speciale on some tracks (Hockenheim didnt do much research) so I think the new GT3 RS will be quite fast since you know it will be faster than the previous 4.0 since it will be PDK. Most of my reasoning stems from the small population of data there. Oddly enough, the 458 Speciale and GT2 RS are very evenly matched and thats even with the GT2 having a slow manual transmission, which is why I said if they do a new GT2 the 458 Speciale is dead in the water, and likely so is the 488. |

125hp and almost 5 seconds slower. Speciale is almost 300hp down on the 918, and it posted that time without the need of a huge rear spoiler which would benefit the Speciale a lot. Anyways, I love both cars and would be happy with either... But, if I had to chose, it would be Ferrari.

125 hp is A LOT of power, and most of the time the Speciale gains on the GT3 is likely on the straight(s). I'd want to analyze the lap to look at entry/exit speeds etc because I dont think the GT3 loses much in the corners. I'm sure it loses some considering the GT3 isnt a full on track car like the Speciale, that would be the RS. If the GT3 had 600 hp it would be a driver's race. If you look at some of the other times, the GT3 despite being 125 hp down, is right there with the Speciale, which tells me on tighter courses, where the Speciale cant use the power advantage, the chassis of the GT3 is better and more nimble. Sachsenring GT3 - 1:32.97, Speciale - 1:32.67 So right there, despite a 125 hp deficit, the Speciale doesnt beat it by much. Not 125 hp worth. Same goes for the Variano handling course, neck and neck. My opinion is, based on how good the 991 chasis is, a GT2/RS versions would easily be able to beat anything McLaren and Ferrari have. But then again, the mid engined 960 will probably be doing just that. Looks like we share some heritage. inch pes es? |
