OP awesome setup. Looks fun.
Forza does NOT blow away GT5 in every aspect. That's just pure fanboy talk. I've owned every version of Forza (including the current 5 on the xbox one) as well as every version of the GT series. It's a great game and does a lot of things much better than Gran Turismo. But when it comes down to it, people like me want an experience closest to driving on the track in real life and GT just does it better with the right hardware. There are also a couple successful pro race drivers now who went through GT Academy.

I don't know how greed was the downside of Forza 5. It's a fantastic game. It has less cars and tracks because everything is becoming far more detailed and it takes a lot more time to model everything now. They had a firm launch date so I'm sure they did the best they could in that time frame. You know how much work it takes to develop software of this caliber right?

I agree, coming from someone who has played every GT, Forza and several PC sims.

Forza is fun, while GT5-6 is more about the driving. The UI, and extras may not be exciting but its all forgotten when you play the game.

For whatever reason though, I never got into the online aspect of Gran Turismo, while I did play Forza 2 and 3 heavily online. I put that on the PlayStation network though, which is lagging behind Xbox Live.

325rider, I am using the Fanatec GT2, which I purchased 2 years ago I believe. No issues whatsoever, whereas my Logitech G27 blew out (bad power supply - replaced in full by Logitech but I then sold it)

DOPE! Its such a coincidence that the day this vid gets uploaded and I lookup wheels/info and pull the trigger, that GT6 comes out the next week! WTF?!

My GT3RS wheel and basic pedals, + CSL seat are to be delivered tomorrow, and my GF is picking up gt6 the same day for me (pre-ordered). Needless to say, prob won't have a GF IRL for long. Not sure if worth it/srs

Ships from California, their US distribution center. Took 5-7 business days to deliver for me, even though they specify it may take up to 2-3 weeks if in stock…

Very cool.

One thing that's difficult to compare GT5 to real life (besides obvious video game vs real life) is the tires.

I have read a lot of conflicting information but it seems like the tires in GT5 are much softer/grippier than real-world tires. I.e., a sport soft in GT5 is really like a track only tire or even a slick. Then if you switch to the comfort tires it's like driving on concrete blocks. I wish there was a "pilot super sport" option

GT6, which releases tomorrow, is supposed to have a whole new physics model, for suspensions, tires, etc.

So radiantm3 will have to upload an updated video

I would assume you can change the tire compound in GT5 to mimic whatever behavior you want, right? I can do that with my cheapo Simbin Race07 sim I run on my PC. the graphics aren't as realistic, but it's a great way to get to know the lines on different tracks. I run a Logitech G25 and have a spare Recaro SRD seat that i set in front of a lowish coffee table in front of the plasma Home theater. I have a frame to hold everything but don't have room for a permanent setup...maybe next house. Race07 has a great selection of tracks available at nogripracing.com, and though they don't have current models, you can drive an M3 GTR. The software is about $20 these days. The additional tracks are free and a logitech wheel is $150 if you scrounge on craigslist (Nationwide). not perfect, but decent off season fix, and a great way to teach kids.

Also Iracing for PCs has some laser surveyed tracks that are very accurate and online racing if you want.

I believe the 1:40 is his best time on the track and that's why he choose that particular video.

Forza 5 is fun with your friends and even just chilling laying back with the controller. The controller for Forza 5 is ridiculously good. Far superior than anything I've ever used.

The GT series is only better if you go all out with the hardware and seat. I would only buy PS4 for GT and then it would only serve one purpose, for racing. Just like how the OP has his set up, that's the way it would be used. Which isn't a bad thing, but then it becomes a much more expensive setup when you consider the costs for a PS4, game, plus hardware and seat. Don't get me wrong though.. It's a badass setup when done properly
