Question...

I recently ran over a metal object on the freeway. Although my front bumper is fine, a black plastic panel just beyond the bumper has torn and needs to be replaced.

Anyone know what this black plastic panel is called and how much it would cost to replace it?

Any help would be appreciated.

got a pic? b/c the undertray is likely several pieces. Also, this happened to me before, and all I needed was one single plastic rivet to bolt the undertray back in. Prior to that, it was sagging a bit. Mine came off right on front of the driver side rear wheel.

Sorry no pic. Unfortunately, mine is torn. wont work to just bolt it back since there is a large tear in it. I suppose its called a undertray? The dealer told me there are actually three pieces to it also..

THanks for the info. any guess in cost to replace it?

That is correct, there are three pieces. There is a large center piece and two smaller end pieces. Depending on what has been damaged you may not need to replace all three pieces.

It's a BMW so you know it won't be cheap!

^ Actually the side pieces are only about $30, plus the bolt if that's missing. I cracked one of mine at some point and will probably replace it soon. The middle one is about $150 if memory serves but it's a physically much larger piece. Still, I was expecting the side pieces to be much more, and was pleasantly surprised that a BMW part of any kind could be had for $30 :-p
