Aftermarket intake... warranty question
Does putting on an aftermarket intake void the BMW warranty? I tried searching but I couldn't find anything. Then again my search skills are very limited

ANYTHING can void your warranty. tech can always claim that your aftermarket filter does not have the same filtering capabilities that the oem filter has, hence letting more unwanted particles into the engine.
if you have to ask this question then MODDING IS NOT FOR YOU. unfortunately, anytime you mod something, there's always a risk of voiding warranty. no matter how small it is, it is definitely there. personally, i have done quite a few mods to my vehicle but i only go for mods that i am comfortable with. so you'll have to find your comfort level when it comes to mods.

Under the federal statute, a manufacturer, who issues a warranty on your motor vehicle, is prohibited from requiring you to use a particular brand of air filter, oil filter, or other service or maintenance item, unless such item is provided, free of charge, under your warranty or unless the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) waives this prohibition against the manufacturer.

I would read this thread. It's pretty much along the same lines as your question just in a broader sense. But in short, anything but a BMW approved or OEM spec filter can technically void your warranty. It is a violation of a contractual agreement that we have with BMW. |

If you want to mod, you have to either not care about your warranty or have a good working relationship with your dealer. I have often paid my dealerships in cash (then a little on the side to the mechanics themselves), to actually install some of my big level mods on past cars. I have never been denied any warranty claim ever.
