Question about options.
Ok, this is kind of a dumb question, but I'm afraid I have to ask. Are the stock M3 wheels 18 or 19? Yes, I am aware that there are 19 optional, but I wanted to make sure if it's the size and not just the styling.

Thank you. I'm aiming for an M3 this fall, so just trying to get a good understanding of options to see what I can and should cut the price on (I originally planned for a 335i, so this is really squeezing the budget, as I'm still in school.)
Anyway, here's another question: I'm aware that the technology package comes with M Drive. However, is the M Drive exclusively controlled through the I-Drive, or is there a set of "manual" controls for those settings if you opt out of the navi? Similar to the new STI settings I guess... I do appreciate the answers That car is beautul by the way! |

M drive only comes with the tech package ... therefore you get nav also.

As my understanding, the Tech package only lets you detune the car. You still have Power button without it. For me it wasn't necessary because I would never use any of the slower settings.

Favorite OEM wheel?
I had the other impression of wheel popularity. So, it's probably fairly even. I far prefer the 19s.

Tech detuning?
The Tech Package gives you MDynamic Mode, which is a semi-off DSC, which is hardly detuning. It also gives you a Sport steering setting and a Sport Plus throttle setting which are more agressive than normal modes.

I thought sport plus is the default option you have when you only have a power button and no tech package, the difference being no middle options? What I do know is the car is 414hp whether you have tech package or not so it doesn't make it any faster.

You're right, there's no more power, it's just how it is controlled. But, certainly your initial statement of "detuning" is incorrect.

I like the 19's as they remind me of my E46 19's and are a distinctive BMW look.

There are VERY few client advisors that know as much abut the M3 as many on this forum. Driving both the base car and EDC car in Sport mode will quickly show you they are nowhere near the same.

Here is BMW's description of EDC from the website. After reading this, one could assume that non-EDC car damper settings are comparable to the "Normal" mode on EDC cars. If so that means effectively that EDC allows you to tune "up" the dampers one step (ie: Sport) and "detune" the dampers down one step (ie: Comfort).

I don't see how you could assume that since it isn't stated anywhere by BMW that without EDC you are in Normal not Sport mode. You are always in sport mode without it and you just don't have an option to choose Normal

In my opinion it is clever marketing calling it "Sport" and "Normal" in the EDC cars. They couldn't call it "Normal" and "Less Than Normal" or no one would buy that option.
