I made this move from a 335is with a dinan stage 2 a little over a year ago and have no regrets. Zero to 100 was the same but its soo much better in the m3.
I Think you should find one with way less miles on it. |

I don't think I'd make the jump for an M3 with that mileage on it. Clean car fax sure. Proper maintenance documents? There is a lot that needs work on these cars and none of it is cheap. Were the plugs changed at 37K miles as recommended? That's 800 bucks at the dealer. Do you need brakes, rotors? I haven't done it but I hear it's around $1500 an axle at the dealer. And lets not forget the dreaded rod bearing wear / total failure on cars under 100K miles.
Currently I have failing bearings in my AC compressor, a clunky driver side window motor, high lead count in my oil, a power steering pump making noise during turning, floating suspension/steering during bumpy sections of roads, a rattle in the left driver window, and a few other small issues with the car. It's an 09 with 43K miles. Driven, but properly cared for all the way. The dealer will not honor any of those issues under my BMW extended warranty because they say those items have not truly "FAILED" yet and they only replace things once they fail, not because they are failing. I'm just saying be aware of the cost of what you are getting into. You have no idea the history of that car with 60K miles on it. It may be perfect, but it may not be. All of that said. Do I love this car? YES, would I trade it any day of the week for a 335i knowing the cost of keeping this car. NOT A CHANCE! Good luck. M3

Go drive it. Your gonna loose that oompfh from the over boost. 335is is super torquey compared to the m3... Your cars worth more retail also.

again, my point is, if you ran away from the C63 b/c of maintenance costs, a 2009 M3 isn't going to be cheaper than the C63. Better reevaluate what you're willing to spend on the car.
Heck, a 2011 335is isn't going to be super cheap either. It'll be cheaper than an M car or C63 but not exactly Toyota Corolla levels of costs here...

I own a 335i and E90 M3.
The difference is enormous. In the 335 I feel like I'm driving a fast luxury car. In the M3 is all sports car. Noisier, more harsh, jerky ... I love it! The instant throttle response, flat cornering, the power increasing all the way to that astronomical redline and yea, the sound! I used to think the 335i was quite sporty; it's more of the "family car" now ... |

Maintenance isn't much of a factor for me, but considering you had to get new tires for the C63 every 4-8k tires even when you drive like a grandpa was a bit ridiculous for me and since i had the rear differential it needed to be changed every 2k miles got old REAL quick. When it comes to oil changes, brakes, etc i'm not so worried because i drive pretty conservatively.
Lastly in the C63 in 08-2010 they were known for the notorious head stud problem where MB for some odd reason didn't use the proper ones and if you were lucky the head would separate and the oil and water would mix = kaboom so this had me a bit worried, but then again with the M3 everyone's been telling about the dreaded bearing problem which kinda irks me!

I've never owned a Mercedes, but my boss did drive an E55 AMG and traded it due to maintenance costs. Which is telling to me because he currently owns a 911 turbo, X5M and an Alpina B7.

I'm probably not the right one to ask because I didn't have a 335is, but I do have an M3 and for what it's worth I wouldn't trade the car for two 335is's...
The instant power, the growl, the 8300 redline in a car that if you really wanted you can get up to 650 hp with some modifications if that's what you feel you need to have The only caveat to the two choices that you present is I personally would not go with an M3 that has 60,000 miles on it for the same reasons that others have given you. Mine had 27k, was four years old and truly was a garage queen... Look before you leap and good luck! |

I've own both a 335is (not the 335i) and currently own an M3
I've had a 2011 335is and I now own a 2012 M3. The M3 is great, no question but here is what you will miss:
- the torque, the 335is had so much that it was amazing. The M3 requires a gear change on the highway where the twin turbos did not. - unless you spend thousands on an aftermarket exhaust you will not get that sound in a stock M3. That is the single biggest thing I miss! - a wolf in sheep's clothing Here is what you will get instead: - not having to explain what the hell an "is" is! The M speaks for itself. - the engine note is amazing but honestly I miss the exhaust note somewhat Just a few thoughts |

I also had a 335 and got an M3 when the lease ended. The 335i got old after about a year. I was bored of the 6AT, the lack of sportiness, and to be honest not having the top of the line up. I always oogled over M3's when I saw them and now that I have one, I am glad I made the switch. The 335is is a nice car but it'll never be an M and will be forgotten over the years. M3's remain special no matter how many years pass by.

To me the best sounding exhaust system I ever heard was my b8 s4 with AWE cat back exhaust. Second it would have to be my straight piped c63. The 335is exhaust system sounds nice but it's too damn quiet! Thank you for all your responses. I'm gonna go look at a silverstone m3 tomorrow but I'll most likely stick with the 335is

With that shitty 91 octane clogging up your injectors on the N54T it is about $3600 to replace all 6 out of warranty.
Still stick with the is until you can find a newer E92M with the comp package. But yeah keep your car and do the homework first. I miss my is but I missed the M3 even more since it's my third one. My only complaint with the is it is underbraked and the dct is not the same as the M-DCT. |

I purchased mine second hand, 1 year old, 10K miles. I knew the guy who owned it through the dealer. He swapped it for a 911 turbo S. It was spotless with proper records. Of course he drove it (maybe you consider it hard) like it was built to be driven, but people who love these cars take proper care of them and that's all good with me. We warm them up before getting on it. We change the oil shorter than 15K miles, etc. We love our cars.
