Stock E92 M Brakes vs Full Brembo Kit?

Anyone know which is better? BMW has claimed their front and rear brakes are a new special compound which is almost as good as ceramic while the CLK63 AMG has only special compound for the front. Do you think they are better than a full brembo kit? there is only 1 kit available for the E9X M3s from Brembo. 6 port front and 4 port rear.

Almost as good as ceramic? No way, ceramic has no noticeable fade. Go with Brembos. They look great and perform great on the track (I assume)

Brembos do work better; noticebly less fade, improved brake feel and over 40 lbs of weight reduction between all four points. Also look better. lol!

Go Performance Friction or AP Racing.

Never heard of Performance Friction and AP racing is owned by Brembo. Might as well get the originals... they're used on Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mclaren, etc etc etc etc.

Go with Brembos if you're looking for an upgrade.

I have the 380mm 6 Piston and the 345mm 4 piston and I love them a lot, the stopping power is gut-wrenching and they just don't fade.

OEM as better as Ceramic? I really dont know about that! lol... If I was thinking about upgrading the brakes, I would for sure go with the 6pot Brembos! Love them on my E46 M3

Go for the Brembos if you are serious about tracking your car, the stock brakes BMW supple their M cars is a joke among the car manufacturing world and the motoring press, they are only suitable for very light track work with a possible pad upgrade and daily road driving.

I can't understand BMW lack of quality on this subject??????

Since 99% of owners are unlikely to track their M3 then fitting expensive higher maintainence Brembo/AP whatever brakes makes no sense to BMW or M3 owners...and fitting a BBK for street use would be a total waste of money. Really, you have never heard of Performance Friction. They are not for piston-counters. My favorite setup for sure. I really think their kits are perfectly tailored to each BMW model. Plus the Bimmerworld guys beat the crap out of them every weekend.

As far as AP Racing goes, I would get the same brakes on the M3 GT4.

Both the Performance Friction and AP setups use monoblock calipers.

It you want to track your M3 I wouldn't get any other setup besides these two. Plus they look great too.

Regardless of any of the above, I assume that for daily driving purposes and for a car that will never be tracked, the OE brake setup is more than adequate?

Absolutely...in any case most of the benefit from fitting a BBK comes from the upgraded pads, fluid and lines.

Regardless of my above comments which only really refer to track work I would say that the OEM brakes are perfectly acceptable for the job, in fact, they have a very good stopping distance compared to some of the competition, it's just that with continued braking from high speeds they are more prone to fade than the like of Porsche or some other brands that believe in offering a more complete driving package.

If your "daily driving" consists of running 35 miles of Alpine switchbacks at 9/10ths, a BBK would be a useful upgrade. For anything else, the factory brakes are more than adequate.

If you wanted a performance upgrade I'd start with braided brake lines, competition brake fluid and better pads. Won't have all the "bling" of the BBK, but will give you better-than-stock performance at a reasonable cost.

One bit of information that might help, the specs of the AC Schnitzer Brakes in which shows ridiculously small braking distance improvement in the attachment on this thread.

You will probably only see significantly better performance from BBKs when the operating temperature range increases significantly. And I'm not talking about brake feel, which I am sure is superb on BBK.

If you want to see how well the stock brakes perform do an exercise from about 90-100mph braking very hard and you might change your "number of pistons" influenced opinion. The main advantage is, as BMW-M-Mexico stated, the unsprung mass reduction. Oh, and you can't mess with the look.

Where the braking distances were taken from two different tests produced in different years which makes them totally worthless. When manufacturers have to be disingenuous in order to show a small improvement its time to look elsewhere.

Just did exactly that, three high speed stops in a row...I never realised just how much braking performance I had in reserve, amazing. Oh and the hazzard lights come on if you brake hard enough, didn't know that either.

OMG +1 on that !

Unless you're tracking your car every weekend Brembos are a waste of money and if you read most forums changing what quackbury mentioned is MORE than adequate for 99.9% of all M3 owners !

track pads , fluid + lines will do everything you need unless you want the bling bling of the Brembo calipers or actually do RACE every weekend.
